Awesome man! Glad you enjoyed it. Its a great product. If you can afford it, I HIGHLY recommend Diamond Kote. They take engineered wood siding to the next level. And 30 year no fade warranty!

Is the prefinished LP siding done by diamond Kote or do you have to request it specifically

@@DBrisky37 two completely different company's. Diamond Kote takes primed LP Smartside and makes it better with their finish and innovation such as rigid stack and rabbeted nail fin trim. If you can afford it, diamond Kote is a far superior product.

I like to run a nice clean bead of caulk and then take dawn diluted with water in a spray bottle, spray it down and it wont smear outside the original bead line. We use the Dimond kote screws with the plugs and then paint the plugs, looks flawless. That's my 2 cents

Where do you use the plugs and screws? We use them on the starter boards but that's it.

I would totally use PVC for trim as you can get it pretty much anywhere, but my trim color is a dark blue similar to yours in the video, and it's impossible to get "vinyl safe" paint that dark. Had to shell out $$$ for the Truexterior/Boral.

I'm a big fan of PVC trim as well when it makes sense. We have converted to LP for most of our exterior trim though. When installed correctly, you won't have an issue.

@@miillersconstruction my reservation on the LP trim is that the sides have voids. How do you handle situations like corners where an edge will be exposed? Do you just hit it with filler? (I've only purchased primed, not factory finished. Maybe the finished pieces don't have that issue ..)

@@PhillyFixed finished trim isn't as bad, but it still has some voids. I don't do anything with it. The manufacturer tells you that you don't have to and they'll still warranty it. I've been installing it for a long time and never seen it fail. Remember this isn't OSB. It's completely different even though it looks similar.

How do you clean lp siding? Can you use any cleaners to spray on and wash off?

Yes no issues with standard house wash.

First off, I don’t know how I ran across your channel but I have been watching every hour of smart side video I can to learn about the installation process. Quick question for you, have you ever installed this over a house that was sheathed with rigid foam? We just purchased a house that was built in the early 90’s and has no sheathing. The little bit of information I can find about installs like this say the foam flexes and breaks or weakens the nails??? I’ve also thought about using firing strips as well . What’s your thoughts? Keep up the awesome videos

f you install Smartside over just rigid insulation instead of structural sheathing you absolutely will not get a warranty. The furring strips would definitely work, but I'm still not sure you would get a warranty. I would contact LP directly about that issue as I've never ran into it in the field before. Unique situation that's for sure!

@@miillersconstruction I looked again and it appears that LP allows the lap siding to be installed over rigid foam sheating . Look under application instructions in the LP installation instructions. I’m looking for someone who has experience with this type of install .

I'm planning a small project that's only about 20 Linear feet of siding. Can I screw the LP lap siding instead of investing in a nail gun? I see stainless wafer head screws for fiber cement siding, can those be used for this LP engineered wood?

Fiber cement is different. LP moves A LOT! I would not trust the shear strength of screws myself. And if I absolutely had no other option, I would make sure the screws were a heavy thickness exterior rated screw. I would just hand nail it personally if thats all your going to install. Thats even cheaper LOL!

I have zip-r6 sheathing (1.5" thick) on my house I am building and want to put LP on. Do I need a 3" nail for the fastener for lap siding and 3.5" for the 1 by trim? the sheathing is 1.5" thick and need 1" into the studs, correct? I can't find any siding nail gun that can hold a nail over 2.5" long and just wanted to see if I was correct on this.

This is the cheapest and easiest solution - Paslode Tetragrip. They have a nailer for siding and for subfloors. Get the one for siding. It's a studless nailing system. It's all we use man.

@@trevorbradley7461 for trim I pretty much only use Diamond Kote nailfin trim. No fasteners in the face, attaches to your sheathing with a roofing nail. If you can't afford to put Diamond Kote Pre-finished siding on your house, at least swing for the trim and accessories. Trust me. Money well spent.

Quick question: I just bought a home that had LP Smartside installed in 2018 and know nothing about it (or any siding really). Our home inspector mentioned he thought the siding was installed wrong since the butt joints were caulked. He was also unsure if there was flashing in between the butt joints, which he would usually expect to see. He wasn't familiar with this type of siding but said it seemed unusual to him. The original installation contract states they caulked all seams with Elastomeric caulk except where Z flashing was utilized on top of windows and doors. Does this sound like proper installation? Thanks!!

That sounds like a proper install to me. As long as when they initially Install the siding with a 3/16" gap between the pieces of siding and then caulked it, You should be fine. If there were issues, They would have already been recognizable had that been the case. They actually have at least three different ways to address that 3/16 joint. You can use h clips which I think are ugly but a lot of contractors like them because they're fast. Or you can caulk it. Or you can prime both end cuts and put a piece of flashing behind the joint.

I got that tintable caulk, followed the instructions to a T and its very liquidy. Is there any cure for that ?

Man I ALWAYS put 20ml of paint in mine instead of 30ml for that very reason. I'm not sure why they don't address that issue.

Put it in the refrigerator for 1 hour or 2 before you use it

Who can I have inspect my LP siding on my new house to see if it's been installed correctly for the warranty? I see lots of issues and want to hold my builder accountable. I paid extra for the better siding and I want it to be correct.

Oh man that's a good question, and definitely a good thing to do! I would do it myself if I were you. I would read the instructions thoroughly and then just look it over. Too many LP installers get in such a big hurry man. It's a shame.

Tyvek is fine unless you're installing the Vertical Board & Batten Style siding.

What size nails did you use for the siding panels ? Did you use the 18GA nails for the panels ? Or just finishing nails for the trims and soffit ?

I only used 18GA nails to stitch the seams together where I added the blocking and construction adhesive on the Soffit and 16GA nails for window trim. The siding panels I used ring shank siding nails .092 diameter. Part of our last build I tried out the new Tetragrip siding nailer from Paslode and my goodness do they hold. I'm hoping LP will approve them soon because you don't have to hit studs when using the nails.

The best tip when installing LP Smart siding is to not install LP smart siding. It's glorified cardboard.

I bet you reply with this exact statement more frequently than you should. Also, if you don't know about the water problems that LP smart siding has, then you should probably do some research. This stuff is absolute garbage and the only ones promoting it are the contractors that are using it to save time/money, and those who were paid to sponsor it. This company has a load of lawsuits against them.@@mTerraM

This company is deplorable. I have a half finished siding job on my house because Series 76 LP Smartside 8-inch Cedar apparently does not exist anymore. It became very scarce during the pandemic after I'd started my project, then prohibitively expensive, now is nowhere to be found. Shame on LP. There was no warning and when I inquired, empty promises of coming product for over a year instead of the truth. Run away from this company fast.
