It's no secret that the widely available MIJ/CIJ serial dating chart has a few inconsistencies, but this is the first time we've been able to verify that you can find MIJ and N-Prefix serials well into 1997. As if Japanese Fenders weren't hard enough to accurately date already!

This is interesting info. But one minor correction. That is not a hang tag. It is a warranty slip. It would never hang in a shop with the actual instrument as it is needed for any repairs or returns.

It's really great you guys are doing this series of videos on the mij instruments, informative and to the point. It shows genuine interest and knowledge. Keep them coming! Edit: it would even be better if your prices in Reverb where not so out of reality and overinflated.

That registration form would have been filled out at the time of sale, not when the guitar was built or put up for sale, so no proof of build date.

This series has been extremely helpful! Just last month I watched the original MIJ video and the follow-up, and the week after I walked into the Woodinville Value Village only to see a glorious barely-played MIJ Squier strat! I couldn’t believe it, but it’s all-original and the plastic has perfectly faded to contrast the Arctic White finish. Thanks fellas 👍🏻

I have a 90's CIJ stamped JM66, and it is lovely. Really enjoying all the weirdness from Fender Japan, in only adds to the... mystique. I would be interested to know why they chose to fake it with the pickups, it seems like more trouble than it's worth

Fun fact: at one time we had a particular Masterbuilt Jazzmaster that was essentially the prototype for the American Vintage '62 models, and it too had a Strat-style wind on the bobbins. This pickup winding weirdness was everywhere as Fender tooled up to bring the Jazzmaster back after decades of dormancy.

The MIJ myth is straight up BS plain and simple I only buy and play MIA and MIM Fenders the real deals..

If you're saying that I don't think you've ever touched a Japanese Fender. MIM have come a long way in the last 5 years or so, but before that Japanese Fenders were far superior. The electronics used to let them down somewhat yes, but with minimal upgrades all that was solved. For me MIA are the top of the line and you can feel it in the fit and finish.
