Opeth has received massive critical acclaim for their combination of progressive influences and annihilating Swedish death metal. These coloured 140g re-issues are a must for fans and collectors alike, having experienced a loving re-master by none-other than Jens Bogren (Opeth, Katatonia, Amorphis, Sepultura), with guidance from Mikael Åkerfeldt.
The records have been cut at half-speed at the infamous Abbey Rd studios by Miles Showell (ABBA, Beatles), and all artwork carefully restored by Dan Capp; designed the way the band originally intended them to be.

From start to finish, Morningrise is an absolute masterpiece. I always debated myself whether Morningrise or Still life was my favorite album but with time I always found myself returning to Morningrise more often. Now i can say that Morningrise is my favorite album of all time.

The Night and the Silent Water & To Bid You Farewell are my hits from the album; I always have the latter on my playlist when I go to bed. Sometimes if I’m not yet fast asleep I’ll occasionally get startled by the sudden drum solo towards the end of the song.

The album that inspired me to start playing guitar. It's a dark, unique gem, underappreciated by fans and the band itself; they made several brilliant albums, but only one masterpiece. One day I want to record a cover of 'Morningrise' from beginning to end. There are so many nuances and beautiful harmonies that it's bound to be a really educational and rewarding challenge. P.S. Mikael mentioned Wishbone Ash. _Amazing_ band from the 1970s. Check out 'Argus' for some stellar guitar harmonies.

Morningrise was written after the passing of Michael's grandfather and while in pain. It's dark but is a perfect blend of the extremes of heartfelt sadness and rage... pure art. It speaks to me in a way that no other album ever has. Agree with others - there was a certain magic in the first 2 albums that they have never quite attained (but it's close)... Incredible band, nice guy too. Replied to an email I sent him back in the day... very cool dude.

That's sad. Morningrise was written after his grandfather's passing. Deliverance/Damnation was written after passing of his grandmother. Im not gonna speculate because i just read this from somewhere. To Bid You Farewell is a song about his ex girlfriend. 12 years later Porcelain Heart from watershed is about that same ex girlfriend that passed away.

I agree. Got into Opeth a few years back, bought and love everything from STILL LIFE up until WATERSHED. I had not heard the first 3 because, well, they are the unspoken of begining of something that ended up great right? No big deal? How wrong I was. The first three Opeth albums are way better than anything they did later, and the later albums are fantastic. I am one of those wierd people who didnt like the transition after HERITAGE. I get it, they are still talented, I'm glad they are successful, but I dont like the music. Not for me.

I don't know how many times I've heard people putting this album in the low rank tier, and even Mikael constantly says that this one is his least favorite, he doesn't like black rose, this album is pretentious and he prefers the first one,.... And after all these years, after liking still life, black water park for so long, Morning rise is probably "my most played" album from them, I always come back to this one like there is still something to remember, to discover... To me this album is easily one f the best metal album of my all-time collection.

I have been a massive fan of the first two albums and am listening to them at least once a month, it's really something else. 3rd and 4th were also "fine" but I could never get into them as much as I got into the first two, and I don't know what kept them from keeping that style. It's like Katatonia's debut, they have never done anything similar since. But while I enjoy Katatonia's later works because I happen to like that style of music as well, Opeth's discography since 1998 never hooked me in and I almost never listen to anything post-Morningrise. I'll give Face of Melinda a few spins here and there and that's it, their brand of well-polished prog just puts me to sleep personally.

I honestly think the moment Peter Lindgren and Martin Lopez left, that's when Opeth's sound shifts so far away from what I love about their earlier stuff that they become unrecognizable to me. I can't listen to their music beyond "Ghost Reveries". I don't doubt their musical talent/abilities, and I've tried to give those albums a shot, but they just sound so awful to me. Definitely not my cup of tea when it comes to music (and I listen to all kinds across many genres).
