I can't wait for their Norway tour next year. I need to experience the music of my people, listening over the internet is great and all but it's not the full experience.

Einar is actually in an episode of the Vikings show. He sings a song from the pier when the ships leave.

Great reaction,folks! Wardruna is truly unique in the way they devote themselves to the sound of nature. Their instruments are self-made,and Einar Selvik creates amazing soundscapes by recordings he does out in the nature. And completes it with outstanding vocals like you have witnessed... I am quite sure you will love their recent video "LYFJABERG",a taste of their highly anticipated new album soon to be released! Greetings from Norway! 🙂

Yes, Helvegen is definitively worth a reaction! Plus, if you like tribal sounds try "Krigsgaldr" by Heilung: MINDBLOWING! The visuals are awesome too, since all you can see on stage (except mics and one pad/tablet for in-ears or little backtracking) is handmade by the musicians and historically accurate. Raido is the rune that stands for travel. It is where the English word "riding" comes from. You will both love "Gra" by Wardruna.

You guys have so got to check out Wardruna and Aurora song Helvegen... I promise your pimples will goose and your minds blown... Its a Viking song about the journey after death.... you have to picture a viking funeral procession and a huge funeral pyre... its beautiful! fantastic 👏 love the Channel:)

I'd recommend the "regular" version more than the one with Aurora (I love Aurora and her voice, but it's the version EVERYONE have reacted to.. it's gotten rather old) Also... Helvegen is not a viking song about the journey after death, nor is it a "viking funeral song". It's a song that brings up the question "who will sing me when I die?", since we used to have songs for every occasion a thousand years ago, but that part of our culture have almost vanished totally. But yes, it is a beautiful song.. especially experienced live!

@therealCelticViking3 жыл бұрын
Hi guys. Thank you for this reaction. Wardruna's work is the voice of my and my fellow nordic, past Here is a breakdown of thought on this video and a suggestion to one of their best performances ever: First and foremost, Raido is a rune that means to travel, it represents adventure, overcoming a great challenge, and it also is a rune that means "riding" or "to ride." In the beginning Einar is tied to two trees, deep within a forest, and we have a repeating rhythm. We also see that his back is turned to a horse, who eagerly walks behind him, also bound to a tree. I take stagnation from these metaphors: An individual who is rooted in place, cannot move, or make progress, and has willingly turned his/her back, or has been forced to turn their back on opportunity. However, as we see with the video, Einar manages to free himself and is shown wandering in the forest with the horse as his companion. Note two things: A forest has always been a poetic symbol of the unknown and thus Einar is traveling a new path that is foreign to him, and thus he's vulnerable and uncertain; him not wearing shoes adds to the 'vulnerable' metaphor. Second, notice that Einar is NOT riding the horse in the beginning, but is riding it later in the music video. When he starts to ride the horse this represents him getting control of his journey, and then you even get to a point where he's riding the horse full gallop, representing a complete control and a complete freedom in his life. What starts as him wandering in a forests becomes him traveling over streams, past mighty stones covered in moss (a symbol for time), through fields, past lakes (symbol for prosperity and tranquillity) , over mountains (symbol for challenges and hardship), and so forth. In the end however, Einar and his companion reach the ocean and he releases him, setting him free and saying goodbye. As a final note, you also have fire as a metaphor in this music video. You see Einar and Lindy-Fay singing over the flames and its casting light, which I take to represent the power of the rune itself, and its deeper meaning. In the end of the music video, one of the final shots is Einar closing his eyes to the fire, and then it cuts to the horse walking away. I take this as a metaphor for an end to the journey; his own death, or perhaps simply overcoming the challenge that he faced. I can also reaffirm this from how the camera is on the surface of the water then, constantly shifting in and out of focus as the water passes in front of it. This represents a new journey about to begin; a new unknown to face. Please check out Helvegen live with Aurora at Wardruna's YT Channel. It is basically the followup to this song and it will blow your mind. Check out the lyrics too. First part is in Norwegian, the last part is in the ancient language Old Norse and quoted from a 1000year old poem.

Great reaction. I've listened to a few Wardruna songs but I hadn't heard this one before. Really cool. Another band and song the two of you might enjoy is Eluveitie - The Call Of The Mountains. They are a Swiss folk metal band and they sound awesome. I just recently found out that the letter u in the band's name is silent so it's actually pronounced El-vay-tee.

Julian will be recording a couple with me tonight. One will definitely be Tool, because Julian and I are HUGE Tool fans, and Mike is not ;) So stay tuned! - G

Both of you have very nice, pleasant voices. I love the fact that you don't pause the song to get your thoughts in, which for me suggests that you respect what you're listening to more than the sound of your, however pleasant, speeches. You're keeping the format short and approachable. I see a bright future for you Guys :) Also, please do forgive me Ginger, but you're absolutely gorgeous;)

I was recently wondering when you might get around to Wardruna! Had been considering submitting a suggestion myself. Another couple of Nordic/Scandinavian acts you might like are Gjallarhorn from Finland and Marie Boine, a Sami singer from Norway. Or, for something very different from the southern hemisphere, Aus Indigenous singer songwriter Gurrumul Yunupingu (Dr G) - one of the most beautiful voices there have been.
