Yes, in the midst of metal concert, you hear a song over 1000y old, and the people hear it, appreciate it and aplaud... good music is good music, point.

Imagine this was in front of thousands of metalheads during a symphonic metal concert. But especially Floor did different opera pieces and they are all stunning. So, whenever watching and hearing Floor, it will be always something you never expect. But you never will be disappointed. Welcome to that rabbit hole, every time you dig into it, you will go deeper and deeper.

You might like this then, Floor singing "O mio babbino caro" on a Dutch TV show about the time when she joined Nightwish: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/i8uErKSL2byZp30.html BTW, Floor is a soprano, but here she sings the alto role while Simone sings soprano. Most sopranos can sing reasonably low, but usually lack the power that Floor demonstrates.

I keep insisting on Shoemaker lol (sorry if I'm annoying) but that for me is a perfect song... metal, classic, opera.... all in one. Hugs guys!

First! Liked before watching, I love this performance! Floor and Simone are good friends in real life AND they studied classical singing together, hence the chemistry between them. The orchestra was a special feature, because this was an anniversary show for Epica. Don't forget Nightwish. There's a lot to discover. Poet and the Pendulum is also a super emotional song. It's about the feelings off the keyplayer Tuomas his feelings when the original singer left the band (bad break up). If you pick the version with the lyrics, you see how deep it is. The singing of Floor and Marko is magnificant!

When the lyrics tell about a grieving mother watching her son get killed and the music was composed by a young guy who knew he was about to die.. it's not wonder the sadness can carry over the centuries and still hit us..

This gets to me every single time: two Valkeries of Rock, one phenomenal rockband performing such a delicious piece. Beautiful, what a talent!

Amazing as in this concert Simone was 4 months pregnant at the time. For other tracks, Floor sings with her younger sister Irene on Ayreon 's The Eye of Ra. Floor and Simone feature as separate singers on Ayreon's The Day that the world breaks down. Another good duet is Simone and Roy Khan on the Kamelot track The Haunting(Somewhere in time). talk about pieces of music that make you cry..... lol Epica is very good at that. "Once upon a nightmare" is still probably my favorite ballad from them 🥰🎶🎼 this piece is on its own playing field so it's own favorite too 😜

Thought that would get to you: wait until you hear Sancta Terra from the same concert. It was called Retrospect and was a one-off celebration of ten years of Epica, so they pushed the boat out with a 70-piece orchestra and a choir (logistics normally make this unfeasible for symphonic metal bands on tour, no matter how much they'd love to do it). One reactor who's a pro made the immediate comment: "props to the guys who had to EQ (mic up and sound balance) that little lot!" . And the kicker? Simone was a couple of months pregnant at the time...

I don't think I've ever seen the two of you as transfixed by a performance as this. And no wonder! Utterly captivating, sublime harmonies. Hard to believe Floor is the same lady who growls and screams in Yours is an empty hope. It just shows how versatile she is. The same goes for Simone.

There was at least one person that has suggested Ayreon - Valley of the Queens, but I'd like to also suggest The Day the World Breaks Down from Arjen's official channel as well. I think you will really enjoy all 11 of the main vocalists, as there are some that you have heard, and some you have not, but they are all amazing.

You have already had requests for sancta terra but please add Aeryon's Valley of the Queens with Floor Jansen, VUUR's Anneke van Giersbergen and MaYaN's Marcela Bovio. It is as beautiful as the one you just watched.

And this was at a metal concert and the crowd showed them the respect they both deserve with there silence until the end

Wonderful Simone, she was 3 months pregnant keeping those high soaring notes up this whole show. The show lasted for about 3 hours, with full orchestra and choir. So if you want to look at Epica live,look for songs from this show, called Retrospect where Floor was a guest vocalist on 2 songs.

6;28 LOL what she said: "dank je wel Floortje !" It translates to: "Thank you little Floor" . Little in this case is a sort of word of endearment. But Floor is taller than most of the comment section which in case of metal are a lot of guys and herself too. :-)

Hi Ginger and Mike, when I first heard this song with Simone and Floor I had to buy the Giovanini Battista Pergolesi composition and I still love hearing both. I have read some comments. So I hope you don't mind if I correct some slight differences in interpretation, Stabat Mata dolorosa, means the Sorrowful Mother was Standing, it is a hymn and sacred music usually played around Easter time. It was one of his last composition in the final weeks of his life he had Tuberculosis and it was said that he died within 24 hours of finishing it. For me not only does he express the pain and sorrow that mary must have felt but also what he was feeling at that moment of composing it. Great video reaction.

Funny thing: Simone says "Floortje" means "little Floor" and Floor is 20 cms (8 inches) taller!

You need to check out Floor and Marco singing Ave Maria it's another wonderful performance. Don't forget as already recommended by others Sancta Terra live at retrospect it's also awesome.

A ways back, Floor and Simone were flatmates. They did some youtube videos about cooking, boys, music and some piano playing. They are both gr8 peeps.

As you love strings and orchestra and as you seem to be interested in new stuff: DEINE LAKAIEN (which translates to "Your Lackeys") were founded back in 1985 and released ten studio recordings within the three decades of the band’s history. The group unites influences from dark wave with pop music and elements of avant-garde as well as neoclassical. Influencing bands are bands of the 70s and 80s like Kraftwerk, Bauhaus, Ultravox and Joy Division. They sold more than 1 million records. During this time they accomplished the feat to make music solely for the sake of making music. DEINE LAKAIEN might have been claimed to belong to one or the other scene, but their essence has always been this: true to themselves and fearlessly experimental. In 2007 they played the „20 Years of Electronic Avant-Garde“ tour with 40 musicians of the „Neue Philharmonie Frankfurt“. Ernst Horn was able to rewrite the pieces for orchestra due to his background in classical music (see below). The orchestra did not play every piece, there were in fact also pure electronic songs. It was not just adding some classical instruments to male it epic like known in rock/pop/metal but true new adaptations. During those performances even an original c64 computer was on stage and used!. Ernst Horn, a musician from Munich, studied piano, percussions, and conducting at the conservatories in Munich, Freiburg and Hamburg. He directed the orchestras of the theaters at Oldenburg and Karlsruhe and worked as a pianist and composer for theater at the Bayerisches Staatsschauspiel (Bavarian state theater) in Munich. He founded the band “Deine Lakaien” together with the singer and vocalist Alexander Veljanov from Berlin in 1985. Alexander Veljanov is a baritone singer, lyricist, and songwriter with German and Macedonian roots, studied dramatics and film studies in Munich and Berlin. In 1991 he finished his studies and stopped his past work at the theater (amongst others at Staatsoper München, Mythos Berlin) to concentrate completely on the career with DEINE LAKAIEN. A perfect way to experience them would be a double feature with an original song and one of the classical adaption. This is the first movement of Stabat Mater by Pergolesi (1736). People who know more about classical music than me say this is considered one of the greatest songs in the classical repertoire. Epica used to regularly play classical and/or film score music in their live concerts. They only stopped because their catalogue of songs became too large--not fair to fans if you cut someone's favorite Epica song to fit in something from Vivaldi or John Williams. Their first live album "The Classical Conspiracy" was done with the same orchestra here and had a bunch of classical and film score pieces. Mark Jansen said that his goal when he formed Epica was to combine metal and classical music.

In the Netherlands are many great duets with singers of the metal scene . Examples are Sharon den Adel and Anneke van Giersbergen with somewhere, Floor and Simone with Sancta Terra, Ayreon with the Valley of the Queens, Anneke and Paskal Jacobsen with Porselein etc etc.

Couldn't see anyone else say this, so fyi: They brought on the orchestra for this 10th anniversary concert. They don't usually perform with one (for many obvious reasons). (also can't stress enough how much you need to watch Sancta Terra and more live Nightwish stuff :D )

This is from Epicas 10 year anniversary, the had full orchestra and choir on stage with them. And I think there's 13 more verses to this hymn. Next Floor and Troy, live acoustic "How's the heart"?
