Allow me to give you the same advice I gave my now ex husband back in the mid 1990s: Go to his gravesite by yourself and say all the things you couldn't or didn't get to say when he was alive. Explain why you did what you did, apologize for your mistakes and then forgive yourself. Otherwise, the regrets replaying over and over in your mind will eventually consume you. This experience can be quite cathartic.

I don't think he despised the show. He just thought it should be a bit more realistic. And I agree. But Sherwood Schwartz wanted "Gilligan's Island in Los Angeles", so that is what it was, basically. Although he occasionally threw Reed a bone or two.

@@trwentSimilar issues as John Amos I suspect for Good Times while not quite the same. The show started with the premise what lesson should person A learn and let’s work backwards from there no matter how silly the character arc or situation was. The Brady kids had no real problems like drug use which was prevalent in California at the time. Good Times on the other hand showed poverty and inner city issues but the manner in which they addressed them were handled superficially.

I agree first of all I’ve seen this episode. Literally 100 times I’m watching it right now is a 57-year-old guy who grew up watching the show and syndication. I was only two years old when this was filmed obviously, my tears are flowing and that was the rare time by the way they called Michael Brady instead of just Mike Brady and I’ll tell you a great writing when they’re waiting for him in the door and he comes in the back way which he never comes in the back way never, he always comes in the front door so that was sort of funny, but that was so good specially when early in the scene where she was in his den, she needed a privacy. She got in trouble a little bit, but then when she went out the window. She really got in trouble couldn’t go. This was fantastic television, father daughter bond. I feel sorry for this generation who goes home, says on the couch and watches Netflix or watches the Kardashians or stays on their phone. I came home and watch shows like this sad generation to be honest with you, we were just so lucky that and great other shows from the 70s.

Whoever the director was for this episode didn’t do such a great job with the kids (IMO). Robert Reed had his issues with this show and with producer Sherwood Schwartz. But he remained through its full run, mainly because he truly loved these kids, almost as if they were his own children. It is too bad he had to keep his sexuality in the closet, but that is what a lot of people, actors included, had to do back in those days (and earlier) to have a career. Rock Hudson (gay), Dick Sargent (gay), Katherine Hepburn (bisexual), Montgomery Clift (gay), Jodi Foster (bisexual), Cary Grant (bisexual), Marlon Brando (bisexual), Barbara Stanwyck (at least bisexual, perhaps lesbian), Paul Lynde (gay), Will Geer (gay), Joan Crawford (bisexual), the list goes on and on.
