Mike's "coming out party" against OSU in 1988 was one for the ages. He went Head-to-head with the Heisman winner Barry Sanders. Gaddis was a great one. OU Forever! USC Never.

Rest In peace Mike. You'll ALWAYS be one of OU's GREATEST players. You were a SOONER and you'll ALWAYS be a part of Sooner football.

Mike Gaddis was probably one of the toughest runners Oklahoma has ever had. I watched his career at Carl Albert High School and he never disappointed. His senior year was amazing. I remember my brother and I going to Noble, Ok to watch the Titans play. On the first offensive play from scrimmage he ran about 65 or 70 yards for a touchdown. He repeated fantastic runs four more times for touchdowns before the head coach took him out of the game. What amazed me more were two recruiters who were standing at the rail on the Titans side of the field. One was Bobby Proctor, the other Barry Switzer. I recall Gaddis, after scoring his 5th touchdown of the half looking up at Coach Switzer and smiling. The coach waved and held his thumb up in agreement and accolade. Mike was heading to Oklahoma and the rest is history. I shared with his mother later in life and she told me that Barry Switzer promised to take good care of Mike, indeed he did. Had he not had early injuries to his kidney and later knees he would have won the Heisman trophy, no doubt.ike Haddis is truly one of the greatest running backs to play in the state of Oklahoma. Thank you for the tribute to his college career.

I love watching this video. I played Grade School football with Mike at Soldier Creek in the 1970s. This is exactly how he ran in 4th, 5th and 6th Grade. Same moves, same high step, same break away speed. It’s so fun to watch this. We had two plays Mr Minton would call: 1. Some kind of old trick play where the center would go to the line first and hike the ball back to the huddle and the defense would not know what the heck to do. The entire huddle would just go running down the field screaming and running people over. 2. Hand the ball to Gaddis and watch him score. Him and another running back named Derrick Robinson were like watching little miniature NFL backs on the field it was crazy fun. He was always laughing and had a huge smile. I know someone else out there remembers all this also.

To think Franco Harris had the imaculet reception that's remembered. Mike Gaddis had the invisible tackle while on his way to an 80+ yd touchdown run against Texas untouched caught his foot on the turf messed up his knee and maybe cost him a heisman trophy. He was never the same after that injury but from all I've seen he was a good man. To me his best overall gamer was when he dueled Barry Sanders when Oklahoma played Oklahoma State both were hard to stop butg he came out in top.

I love these programs that look back on the teams and the players that I missed out on seeing. My first job out of college in 1972 required employees to be on 24 hr. call. It paid well but I lost out on more than just sleep. Retired now and watching to catch up...

What a gifted athlete he was! I ache just imagining how beat up these players got playing on that seemingly "painted concrete" compared to today's football surfaces!

Mike Gaddis was just a special player..! Everyone wanted him back in 1987 and USC almost had him but he chose my Sooners and if not for a devastating knee injury he would won the Heisman likely as a second year player because he put up some monster numbers thru a six game period that only the likes of Barry Sanders and Marcus Allen I believe had put up in that time period. What a fantastic player he was.....But I hear he's doing very well and he's even a better person. GO OU!

If not for injury, Gaddis would have been well on his way to Canton. Instead, he's highstepping his way to Glory. R.I.P. Mike Gaddis. Forever a Sooner. Boomer.😔

Played against Mike in basketball in 1987 (he was on a team with Jeff Webster who went on to star at OU). He was truly a great back and was on his way to a Heisman if not for an ACL tear on that damn astroturf. Really sucks that he passed away. 50 is too young.

OU has lots of great runners. But how many of those great runners exceeded their accomplishments on the field by their off-the-field measures as A MAN?? That's what makes this one tough. The world needs more Mike Gaddis's. Hope God gets his family and teammates/coaches through this rough time.
