@@nicktaylor7680 By advising them. For example that is public. How do you think the government reduce Māori being sentenced to reduce the Maori prison population? Was there a law for this? Don't think so. Also you may what to look at "Stuart Nash resigns as Police Minister after claim of 'political interference'" You may also look at when Avi was stopped from coming into NZ to report on a protest that was due to political interference. Man… I have thought all of my life that Muldoon’s last stint was as bad as it could get. I stand sadly, corrected. This shitshow of half witted clowns would be funny if it weren’t totally condemning my children’s futures to debt induced poverty, officially condoned apartheid, an education harking back to the dark ages and probably… death at the hands of an ankle bracelet wearing ‘misunderstood young brown man’

He was given massive discounts on his sentence because he was "detached from his culture" according to Judge Steve Bonnar, perhaps it's time to reevaluate the widespread practice of giving people discounts on their sentences for violent crime just because of their race?

Spot on. This lying waste of space ducked responsibility by suggesting they can’t sway judges opinion. But her government has done so by forcing judges to accept cultural reports and give heavy discounts. Her government HAS influenced the judiciary, she’s lying through her communist teeth.

Thank you Mike for asking the tough questions, the party line seems to be to hammer legal and responsible gun owners with yet more restrictions despite this gun being illegally held by a non license holder. The government deflecting the spotlight again.
@toranarama1
@toranarama1 Жыл бұрын
The gun register is a good idea though and surprised it hasn't always been active. Every firearm should be allocated to an individual and 100% traceable. That allows more guns to be in the hands of good people and a lot harder for crimes to get old legally purchased guns. Although it doesn't stop illegal smuggled weapons. Police should also have more power to search crims, ex crims and gang members for weapons . Also big penalties for illegally possessing a firearms.

@@toranarama1 You mean a gang shopping list!! That’s why the legal gun owners don’t want the list. Auckland central police station was broken into and the existing licence holders computer file was taken. Many kiwis have no idea that gang influence goes into the police operations. Time to wake up!

If there is a core group of repeat violent offenders that keep reoffending, then the problem must be that they are not being put in prison, so that the public can be safe because they are then not on the streets committing crime. The problem does seem to be with the decisions around sentencing for people who are violent, have no remorse, and keep committing crimes. There is a level of violence that deserves a prison sentence not home detention. Home detention should only be for non-violent crimes, and for first time offenders.
@winstonsmithsoul
@winstonsmithsoul Жыл бұрын
When home detention was floated many at the time said that was dangerous. The government appeased the public by telling us no violent criminals would get home detention, they lied obviously. Or the justice system is breaking the law, because they didn’t change the law. That makes the judges guilty of a criminal offense, somebody needs to test the law and charge a judge for criminal negligence.

Yep agree, keep those stats down for people in prison at all cost.. ..thing is the prison numbers might be down but the death and armed robberies have gone up out in the community...they cannot deny that FACT........if they want criminals to run havoc in our society, police will be forced to shoot back and get shot themselves and injure or kill innocent bystanders as we saw in Auckland. If that is the Police strategy rather than putting the criminals behind bars, then we should all be afraid were incidents will occur next. This is a NO vote for Labour on Law order and crime without considering anything else Labour has failed on while in office.

The 24 year old with a very troubled and violent history should never have been on home detention and those responsible for giving him this sentence should be held to account! In the 6 years Labour have been in power the crime has escalated and their handling of it shocking with the message sent to criminals that this is a soft touch government and that crime does pay. @radhikasandilya9968 No just when you strangle your partner and break her neck then attack her with scissors and threaten to kill her whole family is more than just a sentence of 2 years at home playing playstation

Kudos for a great interview Mike. Love your work but you should have been grilling the judge or at least a spokesperson for the judiciary. HD was not an appropriate sentence for this character who should be locked up until he is old and grey.

Thanks, I now know what the problem is! And it’s the Minister! Yes it is the Judges applying the laws determined by Government. So it is obvious who is to blame!!!

In her job you got to have more than a pretty smile. Good on you Mike for asking the tough questions. Just on a side note I can't help but find her incredibly attractive - my type of gal. Is she single 😅 sorry 🙏
