You’re mate was right. I snuck into the Hacienda one October evening 1983 age 16 to see you on the back of your first two singles. Utterly life-changing. I’ve seen hundreds of bands, saw all the Madchester stuff. But that night was pandemonium. Ended up lying on stage with tons of others daffodils everywhere thinking even at my young age I will never, ever experience anything like this again. And I haven’t.

Mike Joyce, a class act and a very gracious and thoughtful dude. Love Mozzer too, Love all of the Smiths. Wish they could let go of past squabbles and gift the world with another run for all us that were and continue to be moved by the music. Gives me the chills just thinking about it.

Mike you are great. So was Andy. In my opinion The Smiths are the greatest band.of all time. For many reasons but one point to be made. The Smiths were 4 Gentleman not 1 or 2. All four of you are The Smiths. And not one of you could've ever been replaced. Much love man.

I love Mike Joyce's view on The Smiths. So beautiful that someone who was part of it has so much love for it. And how all the subsequent dreck hasn't clouded that love. What's happened subsequently has happened, it's done. But The Smiths is an episode in history that should stand i it's own right and not ne forgotten. Because it was beautiful.

Thank you, Mike Joyce, for being part of THE BAND THAT SAVED MY LIFE!! I mean that earnestly and with deep heartfelt sincerity! As a 'smalltown boy' teen in a hateful Bible Belt southern US town, which is all I had known, I spent hours alone in my room listening to music and trying to write my way out of that world. When I heard The Smiths, I realized that I was not alone, and that it could be possible for me to find acceptance. I am eternally grateful and cannot thank you enough for all of the great music. That's exactly why it took me many years to like the band. Ever since I was a child, I have heard The Smiths songs on Radio bu I have always found it very strange band. It took many many many years to understand the band. At the time it was not even Guns N Roses, It was not Dance type, Not Prince, Not Jackson, It did not look Rock, It was not New Kids on The Blocks, Not American music, it was not Dark and played on Radio ever. It took me more than 20 years to understand what the sound of THE SMITHS. I only understood when I met in Magazine music Morrisey's life philosophy and JonnyMarr guitar style. And after a friend my (Bassplayer) explains what Marr does with the guitar in track "How Soon is Now" and I was impressed. Here in my country THE SMITHS and others uk bands is the basic for almost an entire 80s musical culture. The song I heard most on Radio was ASK. What always caught my attention was the part of the Sea sound in the middle. I spent my entire childhood without knowing someone who had an album of The Smiths. Only after in 90´s I came I had access to the albums. Today I go supermarket here near the my house and I still listen The Smiths in the Radio FM in SoundAmbient of the Supermarket sometimes. Here in Brazil The Smiths is a band that nobody can speak badly. Who knows and collects this kind of guitar rock bands nobody can speak badly. The only LP I have in my collection is the first of THE SMITHS. But I found it in a used shop and it's all scratched the Vinil LP. I still have it because of the big cover! By Jairo D!

To be honest, I'm no expert. John Weeks obviously didn't like Morrissey too much and he was demonised by the whole thing but all 4 of the Smiths are richer than half of the world combined anyway. Morrissey and Marr were the Smiths and the other two, whilst integral, were very much in the background, so who knows?
@Impdive5 жыл бұрын
@@andrewwinton4608 I'm reading Morrissey's autobiography at the moment, where he complains bitterly and at length about the court case, but even he acknowledges (and laments) that they had virtually nothing written down, so it all came down to competing testimony, in which he and Marr claimed that there had been a 40-40-10-10 'agreement', and Joyce and Rourke claimed otherwise.

I love the smiths, the lyrics, the musicianship among the 4 lads is just amazing. Such a tight and focused group. They truly are the Beatles of the 80s. Short lived ( yes the Beatles recording wise lasted from 63- 70, that’s pretty short for a great band) memorable to teenagers of that time, two charismatic leads and background players that are genius players. And made a lasting impression on a generation. Sadly joyce, marr, morrissey , and rourke will never play together again. Thankfully old videos and recordings live on. Youth will never die.

I lost any regard for this man when I learned in Morrisey autobiography that he sent his lawyers to try to put Morriseys mother out of her house and also his sister and 2 kids on the street. All so he could sell the 2 houses and pocket the cash. He failed because neither property was in Morrisey name.
