The WDR BIG BAND and Mike Mainieri (vibraphone) perform the concert "Looking Back - Moving On: Mainieri`s Continuum" together under the direction of chief conductor Bob Mintzer. Mike Mainieri is known to many jazz fans as the musical mastermind behind the musical band "Steps Ahead." The arrangements for this concert are by Bob Mintzer. Recorded at the Kölner Philharmonie in May 2017.

The greatest writer and arranger for the Vibraphone and NOW the best player at circa 80? Incredible. Gorgeous instrument! I was lucky to MEET him in 1983 at a gig he did in Cambridge with Steps Ahead. He was warm, gracious and encouraging-and street. Cool. Thanks Mike!

I was completely taken by this song "Spartacus Love Song" when I heard it played by Bill Evans and the fantastic jazz flutist Jeremy Steig. I thought that I would not hear another rendition of this theme that would inspire me as much as that one with Bill and Jeremy... and then... comes Karolina Strassmeyer and blows me away.......

Vibes is percussion instrument that I wish I had given more attention at Interlochen. I was a kid then with No sense. Beautiful!!
