Sure, Mike Myers is in the upcoming Queen biopic 'Bohemian Rhapsody.' But the British rock band's first appearance in a Mike Myers movie happened years earlier in 'Wayne's World.'

What makes Colbert better than Fallon, the fact he steps back and actually is endearing letting the guest always share rather than fake laughing every 3 seconds meanwhile handling segways and fluidity in conversation without seeming jarring through each transition. Much love Stephen.

When I was a kid, I talked to Mike Myers on the phone once. My moms friend happened to be at the same party as him, and the friend told him that I had made my mom do the headbanging part when we were listening to Bohemian Rhapsody in the car. He wanted to talk to me because he loved that kids were still watching waynes world and doing the headbang thing. hes a really cool, nice guy.

I loved the subtle Wayne’s World reference in the movie Bohemian Rhapsody - “I want a song that people will crank up the volume and bang their heads to in their cars - Bohemian Rhapsody is will never be that song” - I didn’t pick up on that line until I learned that the record producer in the movie was played by Mike Myers!! It struck me then how clever that quote was!

I’m a massive music fan, but Queen was out of my generation. Literally, it was Wayne’s World that cemented the song into my head, and had all my peers in school singing the song. I’d dare to say Wayne’s World gave pop recognition to the song to the newer generation

IAmVo it did when the song got released the second time around because of Wayne’s World it went straight to number one in nearly every country that the song was released a second time I think the first time it only reached the top 20 in the states and top 10 in the U.K. after the movie it went straight to the top spot and then Queen started getting played again by a younger generation, just like this new movie is doing with the band now again. I grew up listening to Queen because of my grandparents and father playing their albums all the time. After my grandfather passed away my grandma gave me all of his original vinyls including all of Queens original songs and full albums that I still get out every now and then and play them on record player when I want to hear the original versions instead of the remastered versions on CD that I’ve got as well. I think a lot of people would agree, Queen had a second wind after Wayne's World. Yes, Queen as a band was already legendary by 1992, but that song being featured so prominently in that movie brought along a whole new generations of fans. I should know, I'm 48, and although I never really listened to a lot of what we used to call classic rock, 60's and 70's rock, when I was growing up, but I saw Wayne's World when I was in college and that movie was such a huge cultural event for my generation, ("we're not worthy" and "schwing!" anyone?) that the song was kinda embedded in my head as well. I actually began listening to more and more classic rock as I got older, in my 20s and 30s.

It is a very good film. It has some flaws. BUT it got so many things right that could have gone terribly wrong (the tone, the pacing, and most importantly the balance between the different aspects of Freddy's story) that I can easily forgive them. I especially found the scene very powerful, where he told the band of his AIDS infection. In my view, he slightly broke the fourth wall in his reaction to their reaction. To me it said: "Catastrophic things will happen to you, but don't be a victim! Use the time that was given to you to the best of your ability. Don't waste it with self pity."

The character in a Bridge to Far is a composite of several historical figures. The umbrella was really carried during the battle for Arnhem bridge by British Paratrooper Major Allison Digby Tatham-Warter DSO. The history of this man in the battle and in the airborne escape afterwards (Operation Pegasus) is truly exceptional.

@cyberdan42
@cyberdan42 5 жыл бұрын
Allegedly he found the umbrella while the 2nd Para moved through Oosterbeek and Arnhem. He kept the umbrella and used it basically as a symbol to boost morale during the 4 day bridge siege. It is reported that during a counter-attack on an infiltrating German armored car he jammed the brolly through the drivers vision slit. On another occasion as the siege got worse he was dashing between houses across streets covered by snipers, one man pointed out the umbrella would not help and he responded "but what if it rains". Basically in a desperate battle where the Para's were surrounded, outnumbered and eventually crushed many soldiers remembered Tatham-Warter and his brolly.
@cyberdan42
@cyberdan42 5 жыл бұрын
In the Bridge to Far film the character is a composite of Tatham-Warter (the umbrella and eccentricities) and a few other officers. In the movie he states that he carried the umbrella into battle (not true, he found it on a whim) because he could never remember the password and he thought only a Englishman would carry a brolly.
@cyberdan42
@cyberdan42 5 жыл бұрын
He escaped capture when the bridge fell and hid out with Dutch families and during that time he helped organize the Pegasus evacuation to sneak several hundred Para evaders (including himself) back across the Rhine into Allied lines (a scene seen in the Market Garden episode of Band of Brothers). Allegedly he (not speaking German or Dutch and without papers) intimidated German occupiers into behaving politely to the Dutch family he stayed with (at huge risk to themselves) and on one occasion while riding a bicycle between contacts stopped to help push a German officers staff car out of a ditch. The man had ice water for blood. Arnhem was his first experience (and last) of truly serious combat. Colonel Frost described him as one of the most courageous and gifted officers he ever served with.
