this guy actually has a really cool life story. after going to duke, he released several songs that became hits such as cooler than me, bow chika wow wow, etc and then he didn't know how to handle the fame that came with it. slipped into a state of depression and after a while decided that he wanted to see if he could be happy with just music and bare necessities. he packed anything that would fit in his suitcase and gave everything else away and brought a guitar with him. After this trip he got some inspiration and found his identity in music and now hes making music he likes, not music that will be hits. Hes approving remixes too so he'll have more popular songs im sure.

The part where he stopped singing and just said “people still think I’m a star” gave me goosebumps.

That was the first time I actually paid attention to the lyrics and realized how vulnerable and honest it was. What a beautiful and sad song, that's also a cautionary tale about fame and drug use. Ironically, the mega-popular remix was the very thing that was being blasted at clubs and parties as people got high.
