Mike Seeger was an extraordinary musician and scholar of American folk music who's efforts are priceless.His friendship and work with Dock Boggs and Roscoe Holcomb for example has left an important legacy of your traditional music.I am in Australia and believe me when I say there is a huge interest in this type of music and it's home made philosophy.

I was so relieved to hear a white person from "back then" acknowledge the enormous unpaid debt of gratitude (not to mention money) that this country owes to black Americans for enriching this country's culture (and coffers). Can we tear down some statues of Woodrow Wilson and build Mike Seeger statues in their place? What a great guy! Should be known as a hero.

America needs more people like mike Seeger. One hell of a musician and one hell of a patriot.

Nothing's going to happen to American traditional music. There are more and more young people every day playing this kind of music. Especially now with the Internet and things like satellite radio, it's easier than it's ever been to share and preserve folk music.

I was lucky enough to have seen Mike play a solo show on a Sunday afternoon. He played pan pipes in a harmonica rig and a fiddle at his waist

What's going to happen to traditional music in America? A very good question. If the mainstream media has its way it will be stomped flat and thrown in the nearest landfill. Here in the Ozarks there are very few places where they play traditional music. Tennessee, Virginia, North Carolina still has old time music festivals with young people keeping the flame. It needs more exposure. How do we know where we're going if we don't know where we've been?

It is called a Morgan autoharp. If anyone has one, perhaps even in poor condition, please respond if for sale. I will pay handsomely for a Morgan autoharp.

If anyone has read Mike Seeger's bio they will probably think of him as a spoiled brat who could never keep a marriage together, but his contribution to American folk music is priceless.
