That was one of the best interviews I’ve seen with Mike. The questions were interesting and original, and you could tell that the interviewer really knew his shit… going into detail is always more interesting than the bland, typical questions. He probably grew up with LP, watching the Meteora Making Of countless times, just like me

Man, I feel like at least in the 21st-century LINKIN Park was the last big rock band that everybody actually cared about. they are really talented all six of them. it’s unfortunate that they unintentionally created LINKIN Park clones. also it’s unfortunate that we lost Chester as well, he was really talented. no matter how many new metal singers come along, they’ll never be able to match the contributions that Mike and Chester made to rock music

You can totally see how different the overall vibe is in an interview when the interviewer knows his shit and goes deeper into the subject matter, avoiding the usual boring repetitive questions. You can see how animated and into this interview Mike was compared to others (minus when Striker is involved).

It seems a lot of LP fans don’t realize that Chester didn’t write a lot of lyrics… yet so many people say “Chester was calling for help and telling us something is wrong!” for years and we didn’t listen. No. Chester didn’t even write a lot of the lyrics… he just sang them and gave them weight and emotion (which is very powerful obviously), but idk why people keep acting like all the lyrics were Chester telling everyone he was suicidal and depressed.
@dbg5081
@dbg5081 Жыл бұрын
No, Chester didn’t write 50% of the lyrics, but he did write a lot. There were a lot of songs that mike created the concept for but they would write together. There were also a ton of songs that Mike wrote all by himself that Chester and the whole group would edit and revise. And vise versa. This was more common in the earlier albums though. I don’t think it was until Minutes to Midnight until the group started becoming a bigger part of the lyrical process. Which is what Mike is probably talking about not liking in the video. Go watch, or rewatch the documentary to minutes to midnight and they show you that Mike and Chester usually do most of the writing but only then started taking feedback seriously. I think Mike did maybe 65% and Chester 25% while the group did 10% with edits. I think this is more accurate with their first two albums where Mike was in more control of the concepts or demos.

Mike said alot of the lyrics came from stories chester would tell him and they all added flavor to the songs. Mike wrote Breaking the Habit , but when chester read the lyrics he starred crying , he said it was describing the way he felt about himself . they both were amazing artists in their own right .

Only one question every day appears in my mind: why such geniuos things like "Lost" & "Fighting myself" we can hear only 20 years after? These hits could be in first "Meteora", while Chester was alive, being among us. Still missing Chester. Its real tragedy for music world.

Well they actually talked about this in another interview Lost was a song that they created during their Meteora era but because 1. they couldn't figure out where to place it in the album and 2. it was too similar to Numb so they decided not to add it and instead let numb have its moment. Years past and they just completely forgot they had the song until recently that they unearthed it, which seems so poetic considering.
