Mike Tirico of NBC Sports joins Brent Axe on the latest episode of Syracuse Sports.
Brent and Mike discuss the upcoming Paris Olympics and Mike's role as the primetime host for the fourth time. Tirico discusses what he's learned about being the host of the Olympic games from prior experience, getting to work with Snoop Dog, the role Paris will play in the games and how some other prominent SU alums will help shape NBC's coverage.
Brent and Mike also dive into Tirico's thoughts on Syracuse University's hiring of Fran Brown and how that will help Syracuse stabilize football and remain an attractive commodity should conference realignment shift again. Tirico also discusses the fine line college athletics is walking in terms of NIL and payments to student-athletes and how Syracuse can maintain the feel of college athletics in an environment that is shifting more and more to a professional sports feel.

This football season might be more important than we thought. Success or lack there of could very well impact what side of the velvet rope SU athletics sits. And it’s not just the on field success. We need to pack the dome for every game to show SU can bring excitement, energy and most importantly eyeballs from the North East. This team and coaching staff can do it. But let’s all show our support.🍊🧡

I am biased as a Syracuse sports fan and one of you and Mike, but this was one of the best pods I have listened to in a while. Really great takes by Mike around the future of college sports and how conference realignment and NIL are going to throw this all for a large loop

College sports has always been about natural geographical rivalries and markets too small for professional sports. The people who want two super-conferences want to cut those out of the picture in favor of large TV markets where professional sports will always dominate.
