Why take a proven workout used by a world champion boxer who was known for outstanding power and change it ?
@tm5267

I read the article years ago apparently from the source. Sit-Ups - 1,000-2,000 reps. Push-Ups - 500 reps. Shrugs with 30kg - 500 reps. Bench Dips - 500 reps. There was no leg work in it. That's been added. And there was no Posterior work. Because I fancied keepin my rotator cuffs in one piece I mugged Bench Dips off and put Aussie Rows in. They pair up and oppose Push-ups perfectly. I couldn't do 1,000 reps or even 500 at the start. 300 was a nice number. Sit-Ups 20 reps. Push-Ups 20 reps. Shrugs 20 reps. Rows 20 reps. 10 rounds of that gave out 200, quick breather then 10 rounds of 10 reps. Did that 5days a week minimum. Mon to Wed, Thurs off. Fri-Sat, Sun off. Then the next week I'd smash out straight Monday to Friday. On days off this routine I'd be swimming so active recovery. This in the long run, gave me great gains! I ate well and didn't abuse my body. Afyer a few months I did a weight sesh for a change and would ya know, my strength had increased! So, high volume callisthenics pays off *IF* you can go against the crowd and see it through to the end. Give it a go for 12 weeks and I promise it'll pay off. If you wanna do something else aswell, go for it, but this is your main focus!

The shrugs were really important because they developed the trapezius muscles which help tremendously in absorbing face blows so your head doesn’t swivel violently after taking one. I think his neck training and shrugs definitely developed the muscles involved in being able to tank head shots, 2 calisthenics moves that work trapezius is pike pushups and close grip pullups

These are very similar to the exercises I perform every day, twice a day except my routine involves gymnastic rings. Three sets of rings set at ankle, hip, and just above the head levels. Quick transition from one station to the next, work just before failure on all sets. Rings are inexpensive, easily portable, and at 71 years of age you don't have to be a Russian/Chinese Olympic gymnast to get benefits from the rings. --mike

My punching power has increased drastically in this short time. It's amazing when someone like Tony shows you something-then you do it-then results come so quickly. All the guys in the gym are noticing too which is a perfect confidence and motivation producer for me.

Love your videos Tony, bit surprised Gaddour doesn't like the traditional pull up grip! I do those all the time, and if you hang in this position it's great for your shoulders. The hanging opens everything up.
@susannevanberkum5724
@susannevanberkum5724 Жыл бұрын
My shoulder agrees with Gaddour, also when it comes to the dips. Hanging with the pull up grip actually is pretty painful for me, although it is indeed supposed to be great for opening everything up.
@moz5831
@moz5831 Жыл бұрын
It varies individually, so you can’t recommend it to a million viewers (most of who prob can’t do a pull up anyway) on yt video. Chin-up is a relatively safe movement, the pull up can ve hard on shoulders, difficult if you have bigger body mass and most people do them wrong without realising. Also, in the end you pull with your lats and arms, it doesn’t matter that much which way you grip, it’s still great.

161cm, 72.5kg, pretty muscular. Like I can do about 18-20 pull-ups and 60+ pushups in 1 minute. I used to box for a couple of years but stopped in the last few months (interning, can't make it for sessions) I only managed 5 sets of this in 15 minutes. And now I'm drenched in sweat :/ It's a great endurance workout, which is something I need since I have muscular strength but no longer designed to last over time (not since an injury stopped me continuing judo). Now the feeling isn't at all like how I feel after doing a hard session of 70 pull-ups+200 pushups, i.e. it's not solely muscular fatigue. It's not meant to burn me out in a "strength to failure" fashion, but at the end of each rapid sequence I'm catching my breath. This is all about conditioning. Great video coach, hope to see more stuff I can incorporate into my workouts to get me back in boxing shape.

- Pull-Ups can be done on a sturdy door frame, a sturdy tree, pretty much any random bar and the specialized equipment isn't that expensive tbh. - Rows and Dips can be done on chairs and tables. - Rollouts can be replaced by sit-ups or leg raises. - A lot of parks and playgrounds have pull up bars and parallel bars that you can use for free to train

I actually know a whole bunch of dudes who got crazy jacked doing push ups, people ranging between 5ft8 inches and 6ft3inches, when they could do 150-200 push ups NON STOP (no rest between sets) they were like between 227lbs to 286lbs, depending on height... Push ups are one hell of an exercise, if you do full range of motion and do a set till failure every now and then along with tons of push ups everyday... These guys did push ups every other day, but they were basically doing 70 percent of their max reps, for as many sets as they can, taking one minute between sets. So the workout stops on the set they couldn't get 70 percent of their max reps. Overtime their food intake went up automatically and their push up numbers kept going up. They can bench double bodyweight like a joke, all of them. They would also do heavy single arm curls and Archer Squats.

I must say I find high reps of bench dips easier on my joint (including elbows and shoulders) than body weight dips. And no need for the equipment. Upper back and rear deltoid rows can be simulated by pulling the chest to the bar during pull-up. Again, hammer grip pull up require a special bar. Nothing wrong with normal overhand grip pull ups, just need to make sure to employ correct grip centred in palm. I like the magazine guys philosophy around low rep correct form sets, and then many circuits. One more comment perhaps include crunches as a variety on the sit ups to not burden the hip flexors too much. Thx

I wonder if Mike had back issues from sit-ups because he didn't train the back muscles in reverse movement, for example, back bridge, hands and feet on the ground, nice bridge, belly facing the sky. You can either hold or do reps. Visually is the opposite of a situp.

Only 3 reps sounds great for form, but don’t I need to get some blood into the muscle groups first and then do the heavy work; ie such short activities are less effective?

I can do 25 or more pull-ups and push-ups / air squats are easy for me. Is there a way to scale this up by percentage of max reps?

They're getting rid of the pushing movement.Cause they're saying it's not good for boxing.But actually when you punch it's kinda like pushing You're a fist into your opponent

10 sets of 3 isnt the same as 3 sets of 10 as it doesn't take into account time undrr tension. Also though it needs to be said, this guy talking through all these movements (especially thr ab roll-out) is very impressive
