not really, pro and amateur boxers usually use 10oz gloves, you should know theres a huge difference in punching power from 10 oz to 14oz, sparring in 14 oz and fighting in 10oz is night and day 14 oz is to protect the old man, size of the gloves do matter, they usually did 8oz back in the 70s but changed it due to being too dangerous

I agree that those are reasons to spar in bigger gloves. But a 14 oz glove catches WAY more of the brunt of shots than a 10oz glove does defensively. Wearing that bigger glove allows you to absorb more punishment, and cover a bigger surface area on your face. And yeah the bigger gloves do offer a bit more cushion, but it’s more the ability to protect your head with the glove size

@@Criostoirg that's genuinely what the gloves were for, gloves were brought in to reduce the breaking of bones in the hands and wrists, they do have qualities that protect other areas of the body but gloves are meant to protect the hands, a fight is a fight, head gear was meant to protect the head until studies showed it to be ineffective and actually more dangerous, no matter the glove size a head shot is a head shot that will rattle the brain in the skull, obviously they are using the 14s to reduce trauma but you're saying it as if this person is wrong about gloves being used to protect the hands not the head when that's literally what they were created for. There's no way you actually studied the art of combat sports yet don't know this, head and body gear is to protect that specific part, gloves are traditionally for the hands and the heavier and harder the punch the more padding the glove.
