In this video I bought an old broken down 1987 Suzuki LT 250 4x4 parts quad to pull apart for another KZfaq build. I ended up getting it running and really liked the quad and decided to fix up to to use around the property and have fun with. The locking front diff, high low and extra low range are awesome features.

Mike, there's no such thing as trash for someone with your talents, it's just you hadn't figured out what to do with it yet! I worked for many years as a welder fabricator and some of my best builds came from the scrap pile. Keep doing what your doing, I'm very impressed. Peace and blessings.

There famous for over heating due to the cooling fins are at a bad angle for air to flow across them. I seen people bend up some sheetmetal ramp to get the air to flow more upward across the fins. I got one also I been wanting to build a big lift and widen it for it and run like 31" truck tires on it. The suspension is super simple on them.

Great vid as usual lol! My uncle had a 97 lt250 quad runner and it really was a unique machine. I miss the old quads like these. People now dont realize the big bore quads of that time were 350-400’s with cool options like the range selectors on these and the independent rear suspension. I think the 2wd version of these had a removable headlight that could be used as a spotlight if you got the optional cord that suzuki offered. Glad that you are keeping it alive!

I bought the exact same model for $550. Got it running and used it for the next 8 years on a tree farm. Decided to get new rear shocks on it, then rode it for a whole day with no problems. After that, it never started again. Did a compression test, and found it was done. Sold it for $450, and that guy rebuilt it for his little brother. I beat that thing horrendously, and it never balked until it died. They are great quads!

Once saw a whole elk about 700 lbs driver and extra rider. On one of those. The rider was about 150 and rider 250. They were coming out of a pretty steep area. There was no stopping that model.

One of the best mods for these is free - remove the lockout pin from the console shifter assembly so that you can lock the front differential regardless of what range you select.

Those are very capable quads for being 250s my best friend had one and I used to ride it all the time and that thing would literally climb the side of a tree. So congratulations on the channel growing my database shows you had 67.3k in 4/5/20 and as of now 191k 6/12/22 so in just a little over 2 years you have gained 121,700 subs nice!!!!!! Keep up the great content. I love seeing your property it is so beautiful where you live I have to say you are a very lucky man. I grew up in northern California and we would drive to Oregon and to the coastal area and the property there looked just like where you live and I loved it as a kid and I love it to this day. I still own some land up north but it does not look like that unfortunately it's stuck lower in the Oak tree elevation. Keep making those beautiful landscape videos thanks for sharing

I paid $500 for an 87 Quadrunner just down the road, was much worse shape and has over 5k miles on it... resurrected it and it's a beast, just not quite as peppy as yours. The space in front of engine is for an optional fan that mine has, it rubber mounts to the bar on either side. I still need to figure out a winch mount like your's. Check out the Frankenstein dump cart that Mustie1 created out of one. The design makes stretching the frame relatively easy.

Great video, and your property also looks like an awesome place. I have owned several quadrunner and king quads. Most of them bought with minor mechanical issues, one complete rebuild. Currently i have a 2002 king quad 300, one of the last of this style of atv. These are such underrated little atv's. They lack a little power compared to a 300 honda, but they make up for it with features. Being able to play in 2wd and then get yourself out with 4wd is so much fun. And then the locking front diff means you arent leaning over the handle bars trying to get the front tire to get traction when its up in the air. Super low is low enough that you'll probably break something or lose traction before you run out of power. The little suzuki engines start good and they are super smooth even at high rpm. The real hidden gem in these machines is the engine/transaxle built together. It is a more robust design than having a separate diff. I also currently have a 98 arctic cat 300, which uses the same suzuki engine/transaxle. One thing I will mention that is the only real downfall of the 250 quadrunner like you have is that they did not come with an external oil cooler. The ones i have had will get hot after a long ride, especially on a hot day. The king quad 300 came with an oil cooler and never had that issue. If you find yourself having that problem, you can buy the clutch side engine cover from a king quad 300 and add some lines and an oil cooler. Otherwise, just enjoy it, because its probably got another 20-30 years in it!

i've got an 86' lt230geg shaft drive 2x4 i got from an auction for $150 at a chukker farm a couple years ago. it had spent it's life pushing bird litter out of a barn with a front mounted blade, and looked like it had never been washed ever. they had a hard time pull starting it at the auction, but it didn't sound too bad once they did. when i got it home, i fixed the cracked plastic, replaced the starter relay, gave it two baths, changed the oil, and cleaned the carb. so far it's been a really good machine for me, especially considering the price. i had to get two tires to replace the bald front ones from simple tire for $45 ea. so it would steer. i think it does a good job pushing snow with 200 lbs. on the rear luggage rack, and tears up the trails i ride on. best $150 i've spent in a while.

You got a real deal there. I bought a new Suzuki LT in '86 or '87 , paid $3000 and I know without a doubt I put upwards of 50,000 miles on it and the only thing other than tires that I had to spend anything on was starter brushes X 2. I sold it to my Brother just 3 or 4 years ago and it was still keeping on, never left me anywhere. I don't think they made one that was as versatile and dependable as the Suzuki LT's. I bought a used King Quad 300 about 7 or 8 years ago and it will never be able to keep up with this. The 250 and 300 look almost like twins, but the 300 has a much bigger turning radius and that is very unhandy. I think when you've had time to weigh the pros and cons, you will see that the Zuki is light years ahead of Hondas and Polaris and any others in that size. Suzuki spent a lot more time and effort to build the best, and it turns out that they won. Put good gas in it and ride, you'll never regret buying it.

Very cool. Whenever I would see these come up on Craig’s list I always thought they were so strange with the engine so far back. I really want to find a Honda 300 fourtrax some day. My first quad was a Honda sportrax 250(basically a Honda recon with sport quad plastic). That was a built proof machine. Then I got a 500 Polaris sportsman. That was ok, great AWD and comfortable but also heavy and complex. I sold both but miss the Honda. I love the older simple air cooled machines.

I’m sure you will be able to get it running again, they are pretty cool quads, you will have a blast with it once you get it running again. Keep me posted on your progress on that 250 man 😊👍

Good to see lots of love for those things. I have one. I don't do the trail-riding thing. Mine is my workhorse. I have worked it much harder than I should and it keeps going. Put that thing in super low range and lock the diff.. no one will tell me it isn't a capable machine. And Joel Bergström (in the comments) is right in that if you run it slow and work it hard.. get a fan. Good video.

Nice Mike! I still am wanting to get a Suzuki king quad myself! (Pretty much a quad runner with a bigger engine). My opinion of these quads was pretty much same as yours before my friend got one. I've gotta say I'm pretty impressed, they are weird but very, very versatile.

I have known this secret for years. I bought a Quadrunner 250 in 2008. I had a Yamaha Big Bear 400 already. I originally bought the smaller 250 for my sons to ride. The Big Bear don't even come close to the capabilities of the little Suzuki. Once the boy got bigger I put them on the Yamaha and made the Suzuki my own. Still have it and still love it. It's never the fastest quad on a trail ride. But it's the one that ALWAYS makes it to the top.

That’s how tough those old quads are, she’s still going. Fix her up and keep it, the classics are going up and up in price. Great machine

I have always bought beat up vehicles, fun to get them running, and looking new again. Most of the time, its something simple to get it running. New vehicles are way over priced.

Now I wish I'd had one growing up! My grandpa was a Honda guy so he had a 1988 Foreman 350D 4x4 (blue) which was a torque monster but was a gas hog and didn't turn tightly (to the right?) due to the front axle design, then he got a 1995 Foreman 400 4x4 which was a nice upgrade but could use a locking diff, same for my 04 Honda Rancher AT 400 4x4. I had an 03 Suzuki Eiger 400 4x4 (foot shift) before that, (shouldn't have traded it in on the Rancher) it had high and low range but needed a diff lock too.

I picked up 6 of those. Slowly been repairing and selling them. They have their benefits, but for faster riding on hard ground I love my Yamaha. Also have a Polaris magnum 500 and Arctic cat 500 I can’t wait to try

Great video! That quad is one of many on my bucket list. Back in the mid to late 1980s, although the 250cc Suzuki was low on power compared to the competition which at that time had 300cc like the Kawasaki Bayou and Honda Fourtrax and 350cc Yamaha Big Bear and Honda Fourtrax Foreman, it made up for it a little bit having the multi range transmission and also the independent rear suspension. If you ever want to sell that one let me know! Lol!

We had one of those when i was a kid on my parents farm, i had a blast with it, driving around trying to get it stuck in some swamp, it was great as a working tools as well, hauling logs or or getting fence posts to the field. One thing you may consider is a fan in front of the engine as it's air cooled and may get over heated, in the day this was a stock assissory. Actually been looking for one the last couple of month.
