Your music is just incredible. You have such a distinctive style, but at the same time, it always continues to evolve. 75% of Zelda & Chill 1 tracks were just (sometimes electric) piano, a drum groove, and an 808 bass, yet those elements are combined in so many different ways that every song sounds and feels unique. Meanwhile, in Z&C 3, the instrumentation varies greatly between songs. In Tears of the Kingdom, is that an *erhu* I hear? I want to talk a little more about Tears of the Kingdom, because it is my favorite song, ever. The drum line is so elegantly simple, kick hits on beats 1 and 3, snare hits on 2 and 4, and toms on the eights in between, and it works so well. The verses are equally simple: just beautiful, melodious, piano melodies played over the drum line. The bread and butter of the song, though, is the chorus. It takes on an orchestral feel, while still maintaining the beautiful simplicity. I can’t quite tell what plays the main melody - a pizzicato violin? an acoustic guitar? or maybe even just a piano - but it sounds gorgeous. The only instruments added are the erhu playing long, harmonizing, notes and the cymbal rolls, but together they add so much to the chorus. Of course, you already know all of this, you wrote the song. I just wanted to take a little bit of time to fanboy over it. Your arranging is incredible and your style of lofi is so distinctive, in the best possible way. I can’t wait for this upcoming album! P.S. if I still have your attention after reading the rest of this comment, you’ve inspired me to try writing my own lofi remixes of songs (my goal is to make an album of every Monogatari OP), what is a general overview of your process for remixing songs?

well, praising his "songwriting" when the majority of his works are arrangements is a bit generous haha. with that being said he has very good arrangements, his instrumentation remains superb as always, and if this piece is anything to go by, his composing is also very good. i'm super excited for this album totk is a very good piece, my favorite from that album is his arrangement of sword search (in the album "link's awakening"). fwiw i suspect the melody in totk is either a pipa or a daruan, though that is just a guess (i am probably completely wrong, i don't have any knowledge in chinese instrumentation, i just did some very quick research)

@@lanye2708You're right, songwriting was the wrong word, thank you for pointing that out. It does sound a lot like a pipa, and it makes sense that if he used one Chinese instrument in the arrangement, he'd use another.

Also, I tried to DM you on instagram a while ago, but I was just wondering how I could start to make lofi? I don’t know anything about music, but if I could do anything close to what you do, I would be very happy! I thought learning piano would be a good start, but what are your thoughts? Any guidance is deeply appreciated. In any case, thank you for the amazing beats!
@MikelTBE
@MikelTBE 11 ай бұрын
Learning piano doesn't hurt of course! But it's not necessary, I only know how to play a little. Just listen to the artists you like, get inspiration (but don't try to copy, but getting inspired by certain elements is normal and then try to do your own thing with time) and just keep making beats, show them to friends and listen to honest feedback. Maybe search for some free plugins and drum sounds at first and with time also buy some good ones, doesn't have to be the expensive stuff at first. There are tons of tutorials on KZfaq that are really good too! I keep saying this, but I swear some day I'll start with some tutorials and show my beat making process haha
