Wow i commented before i read others comments. I had no idea so many people liked this game. As a kid, i never heard others talk about this game so i kinda felt like was the only one who liked it. Glad to see i wasn't the only one!

Yeah, I'm not really a gamer... the last system I owned was PS2, but back in my childhood days it was pretty much Mario, Zelda, Mega Man, Contra, and Bionic Commando. Watching this and hearing the music brings me back to being a ten year old staying up all night alone, playing Bionic on my little TV.

I was playing that title on the 3DS OG GB one and I didn't realize until the end boss or near the end that I had a health item in my inventory..... I felt so dumb. :P

Over world is what kept this from being entirely an action based game, and the RPG elements were brilliant. Collecting items to advance, talking to NPCs, experience in the form of bellets that lead to life (levels). Also the line tapping that you missed out on offered clues to the game. You also missed out on using the lantern, it makes the dark level more detailed. If you liked the Hitler element to it, then probably would have liked the JP version much more. Enemies you are blasting are more clearly Nazis and it used much more imagery then the eagle crests. For example it adds swastikas. But Nintendo cleaned the game up for American release sadly.

I rented this as a kid. It's wild seeing Mike play it. I'll admit, I was terrible at it. All I remember is the first level because that's all I could do is be stuck in the first level and retry it over and over.

This game was definitely hard. The hardest part was discovering those little emblams in the top-down levels are continues. Forget Twitch chat help, this was before Nintendo Power. I still remember 9-year-old me figuring that out. Also LOL @ you grinding for health. *pops in Game Genie* "idk guys this game was pretty easy." :p Just bustin your balls, Mike.

i liked this game back in the day too but i think a lot of people forget how difficult it was, some grapple jumps in this game were fucking impossible to make requiring 100% luck really, this is why most of us never played it for more than a few hours maybe at a time, cause once you got to those jumps that was it, still a very fun game tho.

Another fantastic old school Capcom classic! Haven’t beat it since the 80’s! I’m definitely gonna give it a shot on the emulator soon! The arcade version is great too! It’s a basic 5 level run n gun! Standard top notch soundtrack as to be expected from Capcom!!

Hey Mike. Have you read that like 10 or 12 part mini series that was about uncle scrooge as a young lad and how he got to the point where he had his money bin? I forgot who wrote that one but it was damn good. I think it came out around 1997 or something.

The #Nerd or #JamesAndMikeMonday should do a mini series of all the late 90s Saturday cartoons like : Ahhh Real Monster, Eek the Cat, Rocco's Modern Life, Rugrats, Animaniacs, Biker Mice From Mars, Bonkers, CatDog, Dexter's Laboratory, Gargoyles, Powerpuff Girls, Tiny Toons AND last but not least I really REALLY want to see the #TheNerd play #AquaTeenHungerForce!! If he did something like this I gauretee it would do well over a million views in 24 hours!!

No, although he does mention it in passing now and then. On various occasions he has said that he prefers figuring games out on the Fly. Also, that ideally games should be simple enough that you don't have to look at the manual to figure them out. As much as I love Mike and the vast majority of his content, the occasional video he does like this make me never want to watch him again. He constantly whines about what's going on, wines about too much text, and then ignores the fact that that text he complained about explains what happened. Case in point, game tells him he gets a rapid fire item. Lo and behold, there's a new item in his selectable items "what is that thing?" "What does it do?" "Is it a butt plug?" "Whatever, I don't know." Also, when he was in the 3rd or 4th boss room with the extra turret after he destroyed the robot. "Can I shoot this? Is this doing anything?" Gee, I don't know Mike, is it flashing or reacting like everything else in the game that you can shoot? No? Then you probably CAN'T shoot it!

there was a remake of this on pc, it's practically the same game, but with better graphics...and a hard mode. if you play the hard mode, you will want to throw your system out the window, it's that hard

6:35 I guess it reflects how little testing or concern for gameplay they put into these older games. Hanging around to kill infinite spawning troops for stat increases is not ONLY time consuming, it's also a WASTE of the player's time. It didn't need to be this way.

I was kinda shocked you didn't use your hook to grab the pellets or items though out the game or shoot your hook straight up to kill enemys parachuting down. I love this game 👍
