Welcome To the Basil Jungle, So Easy Anyone Can Do It!!
I grew cinnamon basil indoors under grow lights with the Kratky method of off grid hydroponics. Some were grown in my downspout / gutter with pool noodles and some were grown in upcycled milk containers. This is basically a set it and forget it system. Barely any care, just a little refilling a few times.

I grow a lot of Thai basil for our Vietnamese foods. I can't wait to try hydroponically grown Thai basil. Edit: I grew a ton of Thai basil in a 5-gallon bucket. It was all we needed for all year and we use a bunch. We harvested two sandwich bags full of leaves every week.

Hehe, I'm blown away. I've been struggling with Basil for 3-4 months, praying they'd hold on until I could get them outside. Keeping in mind, every plant so far has died, eaten by something in the yard. Here in the house, I've dealt with Fungus Gnats, the problem solving exhausting. Changing my soil mix, bought a baby grow light (ugh) sterilizing the soil, and then, this week, the plants are hit with something else. The fail, is unbelievable! 🤥 Then..., I found YOU 🌠🌹🌼🌻 🥰 Thank you so much Mike! I can hardly wait to get some nutrient and clay stones.🐞 ...and, so much love and appreciation from Vancouver Island. 🙏xoxoxoxox

When I was a child, my grandfather grew African Violets (in the Chicago area). He had the beautiful flowering plants in pots completely covering the top of a desk. To propagate, he would take a single leaf, and instead of pool noodles (they hadn't been invented yet), he would cut a circle out of a cereal box a little bigger than the top of a fruit glass and cut a slit from the outside edge to the center, using the scissor point to create a hole at the center. He would slip the leaf into the slit to the center and place it on top of the fruit glass filled with water. He told me it was to prevent the leaf from touching the water. He would set the glass, with the circle and the leaf, in the sunlight on the desk. In no time, there were roots and a brand new leaf coming out. When the roots got long enough, it was transplanted to a pot of it own. Just to see, I'm going to start cutting circles out of the cereal box!

I came across your videos on growing vegies and other plants am so impressed, I have been watching other hydroponic videos and boy it all seemed so complicated and overwhelming. Your videos are so easy, inexspensive just so awsome, no complicated systems, pumps and such. I am a staunch believer in recycling and this is a fantastic way to do it and grow food. Thank you so much for sharing your videos. God bless you in all you do.

Love your videos. You don't need to freeze your basil, as mentioned before. You can throw it in a lunch bag or envelope, fold down the opening a few times. I keep it in the bags in the veg. bin to dry and it keeps for years.

My problem is not how to grow - I am new to Kratky but it is doing remarkably well. It is just so simple. I am setting up dutch buckets for my chocolate and coffee trees, and will explore NFT for production of leafy greens, but Kratky will always have a place on my grow-shelves. My challenge now is... exploring all the veggies I have zero experience with - preparing or eating. There are so many types of basil out there, for instance. I have never made pesto, nor do I really know what to do with basil. We are transitioning from mainly pre-prepared foods to fresh foods I am growing. I have recently harvested my first crop of Kratky spinach and am planting swiss chard, three lettuces, watercress, a couple of types of baby boc choy, and three types of radishes indoors in quart jars, as well as okra, cellary, and melons outdoors in 5-gallon buckets, and dwarf tomatoes in my greenhouse. But those I am sorta fairly familiar with. Basil, however, is still quite the mystery to me.

My basils is acting a bit weird inside this year. It isn't growing upwards that quickly. It is getting extremely bushy, to where the central stalks aren't even visible.
