same as in Hawaii. you always address your elders with aunty so n so, or uncle so n so even if that's not your actual aunty or uncle. if you don't, it just seems really disrespectful.

I am pinoy and live and states. Here in the states, i see many kids not respective their elders or even other adults as Filipinos. Kids tend to call their friend's parents by their first name, not like tita or tito, or at least Mr. Or Mrs. Filipinos tend to stay with their family, through illness, Chrismas, after college, marriage, etc. they are still with family, unlike leaving parent alone. PHP is very respective.

@nelaix28 I think it is natural because almost all filipinos are religious and believe in God that they believe from the beginning that we are all considered related. Also, other thinking is that we may not be closely to blood to blood related, but pinoys also deem that they are all related spiritually.

Excuuusssee me! But I'm in not saying he is doing bad by doing whatever he can to earn a living. Just stating the blunt obvious fact that he is changing/evolving. And NO! I'm not trying to generate hate no am I trying to stipulate a way of life. Further! I promote the artist by way of the mouth (Think of factor tree).

They'll say po or opo if they're younger than you. But they'll also asked you weird things and act really stupid and crazy and put a smile on you. This is quiet insulting in many countries. Majority of the people don't know good manners and etiquette. All Filipinos i sincerely request you, please learn how to respect everyone, young and old.
@8bittimetraveler8346 жыл бұрын
In the filipino culture people stop giving every sings of affection their kids once they reach the age of about 2 years old. No more hugs, no more kisses, no more nothing except the mano po gesture. Filipinos say it's a sing of respect but that's not true at all. The mano po is nothing but a sing of submission. They put barriers between the kids and the adults and the children grow thinking they are inferior. It has a huge impact on a society of more than 100 millions. We can clearly see the results of this. No wonder why people vote for a genocide and force their kids to work or throw them in jail. The way people parent their kids is a key element on every societies. The government of the Philippines should invest on the culture because right now it's too primitive and backward. I feel we're in the middle age when I look at you guys. Seriously.
@thakima15 жыл бұрын
Great comment brother😀 I have been living in Manila for almost 2 years and i really had a hard time about how the elders behavior towards the young ones.
@caseofkc2170 Жыл бұрын
TL;DR: Respect other cultures because none of them is "primitive." I daresay having "respect" as the social norm default is better than having "you're not above me" as our egoistic default, if we're ever going to have an open, more "forward" modern society. - ...okay, hear me out. Modern Filipino families tend to combine affection and treating children as equals with Filipino morals...I can testify to growing up that way. In no way should we completely scrap either "traditions" or "the modern way" of doing things. Our heavily West-influenced country integrated both aspects by now. But my personal take is that po & opo don't impose inferiority, nor is it "backwards"...do we call other Asian countries with other gestures for acknowledging their elders "backward"? We admire South Korea's pop culture, and Japan's advanced innovation. Both countries have distinct respect for elders. But it's safe to say their nations are far from "primitive" in any sense of the word. Respect for elders iin "po" and "opo" is actually general respect for everyone, even strangers our age. It reinforces not that we are submissive dogs on leashes, but decent beings who default to "respect" when we don't know someone. I know people a year below me addressing me with "po" which they drop once we become closer, whch is completely fine. If a society's default is "you're not above me," then the fact that EGO is the default won't surprise me when people complain that decent human beings are on the decline. Again, this is just my take: Don't call any cultural tradition "primitive" just because you think it doesn't fit your view of the modern world; I think many communities, especially the indigenous, would find that, I don't know, _disrespectful?_ Seriously. (I don't meant to be rude, just adding to this point because I believe the Internet is good for healthy debate. Have a good day po!)
@8bittimetraveler834 Жыл бұрын
@@caseofkc2170 The Philippines is a very poor country with thousands and thousands of heavy social problems. These social problems lead to deep poverty. The real poverty in that country is intellectual, social and cultural. There is only one solution to fix that nation and adapt it to the 21st century: Filipino philosophers and intellectuals must standup and talk. A massive national socio-cultural revolution must be organized across the country and abroad. Many aspects of the actual Filipino culture and mindset must be abolished. Unfortunately that will never happen. Filipinos are very conformist and love authority. To fit in society and avoid gossips, the Filipino must pretend everything is doing fine and act bashfully all the time. He will certainly not stand up and and try to change things. He believes that only a macho strongman/dictator can change things.

How do elderly people then respect the younger ones? Surely they don't say "Mano po" or "Opo" or "po". Showing respect to ANYONE (young and old) is through your attitude, your positive energy towards everyone. Words and gestures are all right, but this is outwardly "show" and social norms. There's more to social norms learned throughout the ages. What's more important to me is how you carry yourself towards everyone, how you behave and what your attitude is, right conduct and dealings with everyone else.
@misterymindz4 жыл бұрын
in the philippines without Po and OPO the elders will get angry and would want to kill you.
