Robin Rescue - Part 3 - Found on the lawn, having fallen from a high nest, two baby birds would need human intervention to survive the cold night times, and the many predators in the area. This video documents their progress from nestlings to fledglings, in 6 chapters.

Thank you all for your encouraging comments, and for all the great work you do to help these birds in need. Compassion for a fellow creature raises us all to super-human status, if you ask me. I love seeing the great work you all try to do saving birds. REMEMBER: job one, is to put it back in the nest!! No one can raise the bird better than the parent bird. I never take a bird if there is a viable nest, or any way for the parent to feed it. Honestly, it is best to stay out of it, and let the parents do the work. I only intervene, when there is no nest, no parent, or if there is immediate urgent need to save the bird's life. Knowing when to help, and when NOT to help, is the hard decision we all make. Great vibes everyone, fly on! I can only help birds when my time allows, and my time only allows, when the bills are paid... :-( So if anyone has the means to help, consider donating to my campaign: www.gofundme.com/the-bird-expenses

I have a situation at work. I work for a large city in Hamilton, Ont. 4 months ago I'm guessing a baby Robin fell from it's nest, and damaged it's wing. I ended up stopping at a bait shop many nights and leaving worms for it. I can now fly into the tree, but I fear it won't be able to migrate come winter. I am willing to adopt it, but would like some info from a pro such as yourself. Are you available for contact?

I agree, as humans we just think.of bird song as a kind of white noise cute background music. For a bird though, they're hearing a whole orchestra of birds singing and communicating with them saying "hey look at me come be my friend". I think the 1st bird was male, this 2nd one female hence the difference in character. She wants to play safe next to her human man but as she's getting bigger she can hear the other birds and probably also her sibling out there calling her to the wild. ✌🐦

I had a baby starling that fell from a nest which I couldn’t reach to return. He only had a little bit of feathers, much younger then your two. I bought a bird cage, and gave the baby a little bath bc he was covered in little mites. I made a nest using a bowl with a washcloth and paper towels that he would sleep in. At night I would bring the bird cage in and cover it, and in the morning I would bring the cage on my patio. He stayed in the cage for the majority of the day. There were a lot of predators. For food I soaked dry kitten food (protein) crushed up a tumbs (calcium) ground up some egg shell into a powder (calcium) and I would feed cut up grapes (the baby’s favorite) and I would give mealworms as well. I fed the bird about every twenty minutes to a half hour and used tweezers or half a straw which i cut to make a tiny spoon, or just my fingers. After the first week he had almost all his feathers and could jump around a little, halfway through the second week he was jumping up to the bars on the bird cage and really chirping, so much so that the mother heard him and started to feed him through the cage! I was able to record her feeding him while she would grab hold of the bars! After about the forth time she came and fed him in about a 45 minute period, I opened the door to the cage, and she took over from that point on. Every hour or so I would go out and check on him, and she would come by and be squawking at me and doing sort of like dive bombs at me! Lol so after that I just left them alone. Once the sun went down I would close the cage and cover it, but now I left it out on my patio. As soon as the sun started to come up, I’d go out and take the sheet off of the bird cage and open the door. I still fed him the first couple times in the morning, but only the grapes and mealworms, he jumped out and followed his mom and siblings on the third day of his mother feeding him. I watched them all for about a week in the yard, and then they were gone! I’m just glad that I could save him, bc his other two siblings who had first fell from the nest didn’t survive.

Mike Franzman I’m in the middle of this right now. Rescued a robin last Saturday from a crow who was eating its siblings! We live in Virginia. Your videos helped me so much on how to care for him. I released him today. It’s been 5 hours. He just flew back to me from the woods because he was hungry. How do they learn to fend for themselves? Help!

I am from finland and a week ago I found a "räkättirastas" (fieldfare? Turdus pilaris) wounded (bloody wound on his head) and just a few feathers 😅 no nest to be seen and he was in the middle of the road. Now I have him eating like crazy and almost at the point where these two were in the beginning 😁 he looks remarkably similar to these robins even tho he is a different type of bird 😊 I will have to start taking him out but it's harder for me because I have to drive to a safe location and do it there, because I live in an apartment that has playgrounds atc around it so I don't want to release him here 😊

I was worried when I saw the cat... Not long ago me and my wife found a baby sparrow, she fed him for few days and when he began to fly we took it to our yard to see if we could find freedom. Later that day we found the poor little bird... without his head. It was horrific. We are not sure what could do that, but we suspect it was a cat from the neighborhood or maybe a bigger bird, as a crow or a grackle. We feel sorry and guilty we could not watch him all the time, it was a very cruel scene.

Found a bird (initially thought robin, later found out pigeon baby)... so cold in the rainy floor..... It helped BEST if they are placed in a a dark room (ideally on a tray with fluffy soft old cotton cloths to keep them warm + a small plastic bottle filled with warm water and wrapped in cloth so they can snuggle up near its warmth) they fall asleep within 10-15 mins & can safely recover for 1 day and then regular day cycle, in a quite corner (like store room). Also ideal to feed them CERELAC liquid food with a 1-2 mm piercing in a glove/baloon streched onto a plastic bottle, then they open mouth & EASILY EAT AS MUCH AS THEY NEED (usually 5-10 ml in one go).... Good luck & take care 🕊👏🙏

Your bird is so nice. I took care of a few robin's but in my case the entire robin community kicked in. The birds around my house apparently do not care if it's their baby or not, several cared for the babies but these robin's weren't as friendly. The next season another baby was in my area learning to fly and one of those babies i helped out all grown up attacked me. I'll admit i was kind of proud of him butnot as nice as yours. I guess i never did carry any of them. I just fed them.

Well, you lost me on this one. Climbing the tree and the bird running from you. I did see that cat so, danger. If I can give an idea, get a bird house. They obviously know where they eat yet, don't want to be trapped in a cage. The nurturing was so wonderful. I had found a bird the other morning and had no idea how to care for her. Took to sanctuary. That was my 3rd bird. Plus, I have a cat. But now I know, soaked cat food. Who knew. Big heart!

Aww you'd think he would have learned how to fly back to the yard. Eventually they need to learn how to find their own bugs and worms. Poor bird didn't have parents but usually that's what teaches it when it's a fledgling.

Hey Mike, I have a question. A baby robin fell out of the nest and my dog was messing with it. The nest is under my deck so I gently picked him up and put him back in the nest. I started searching the yard for a second bird when I started feeling tickling up my arms. There were little bugs!!!! I flipped out and ran into the house and washed my arms all the way up to my shoulders. What were these bugs and should I be worried?

@@cocothequail8042 Considerable part of robins diet is made of worms, mainly earthworms, caterpillars, insects, and all kind of small bugs .
