Mikhail Tal possessed both courage and attacking skill in measures never previously seen in the chess world. In 1960, he became the youngest World Chess Champion in style with incredible attacking play. His 21st move in game 6 may just be the most courageous move of all time.

Hi Sam, thank you for making this mind-meltingly complicated game a bit simpler to understand for simpler people like me. Astonishing play by both sides, and one of Tal's many masterpieces.

15:59 why didn't Tal take the knight with his bishop as Botvinnik's bishop is pinned. Then kf2 rf1+ / kxe2 rxf4?

If tal takes the knight in that position there is rook e3 fork by botvinnik, resulting in a trade.

Tal was from Latvia. He was not a Russian. Botvinnik was the glamour darling of the USSR. There was no way the Soviets were going to let a 'foreigner keep 'their title.' It has been said Tal was ill before the rematch but was forced to play. It has been suggested that he was also under political pressure to lose. He most certainly did not play up to his standards in the rematch which makes it plausible that he lost 'as directed.' Kinda like Bronstein did to Botvinnik ten years earlier. One thing the Soviets were known for was their pride and that they would do everything needed to keep that intact. Botvinnik was really a weak Champion as he never defeated his opponents in their first matches, only in rematches.

That isn't really a brilliant move it is a bad move according to the engine said by Agadmator

What's a good move really? Fifty years from now some new engine will find flaws in Magnus' games too. At the end of the day the game is played between two humans on the board. If it worked on the spot, it's a good move.
