Chess players love blitz chess, but there aren't many blitz chess games that are considered truly excellent games. Mikhail Tal's win against another former World Chess Champion, Anatoly Karpov, stands the test of time in any format though and must be one of the finest blitz chess games on record.
Lessons:
* See exchange sac on e6, make exchange sac on e6.
* Centralize your queens in defense.
* The defender's job is always harder.
* The defender must scour every legal move for a defense. E.g. ...Bh6!!

Tal was nicknamed the magician of Riga and viewing this wonderful game one can easily understand that. Always attacking, always sacrificing material. Who nowadays is comparable with this giant? Thank you for this game Sam.

Nobody compares to Tal. Today's players prefer to draw their way to win events than to put effort into calculating long and complicated lines to win by force the way Tal did. Tal wasn't perfect but I assure you that at his peak even today's elite players would struggle against him.

Great game that definitely looks like a non stop blitz attack by Tal. I actually found all the moves in the "pause" section for once! I would love to see some more Caro Kann games and a video of how to use computer analysis correctly. Great job Sam as always!

I honestly didn't feel like this game was too great, especially since you mentioned how today, most people would play that exchange sacrifice. I feel like a game like this could be played by any grandmaster today on chess.com blitz. But maybe it was a more novel idea at the time it was played.

So to summarize, you don't think this game is too great because today we have computer engines to tell us the best move (Rxe6 or Ng3) on the push of a button. To Tal's defense he had to find a solid 10-15 move continuation within his allotted time in a blitz game to make those moves. Maybe you also look at ancient structures unimpressed because after all they are just stones stacked on top of one another compared to today's sophisticated building techniques. Perhaps, you should try lifting a 2 ton stone and stack it on top of another one without any modern technology to gain some respect for our predecessors.

Who thinks that Magnus will rein for more than 27 years?

@Oissev Onos he's leaps and bounds better than the field at rapid. And if the championship match structure stays the same, all he has to do is force his opponents to convincingly win while he plays to force draws. And smoke the brakes off of them in rapid play. Botvinnik seemed like a fascinating character. And the caro kann feels uncomfortable to play if you don't know what you're doing. He definitely did.

Nobody. Lasker's 27 year reign as WC was a fluke. If Carlsen can go as WC more than another couple of WCC cycles I would be very surprised.

@@MrSupernova111 adding rapid chess to the world championship only benefits him. If anybody is even a threat to beating him in classical, he can just draw them out and go straight to a rapid playoff. But time does grind and have an effect of world class grandmasters. Who knows.

@@chriszablocki2460 . Yes. Time will continue grinding at Carlsen's ability and a new generation will fill the ranks of elite players. I like Magnus and if he remains champ for another ten years I would be happy for him. But I think time is against him. We'll see. Cheers!

@@MrSupernova111 whoever it is is going to have to be a rapid monster and have some risky opening preparation that doesn't create draws.
