This is truly and remarkable performance. Technically lucid and a deep involvement in the performance and spirit of this work which needs to be heard ! Unfortunately, like most American works it is sadly never performed live. Your energy is absolutely massive and the overall sonics are just amazing. Thanks very much for bringing Dr. Rosza work to life and for giving future generations of listeners this pleasure.

This concerto certainly has one of the most exciting, exhilarating, exhausting finales ever! The entire work has a nervous abandon that, combined with its percussive nature, makes it quite a treat, in the manner of Prokofiev's Third Concerto. Am I right in thinking that Rozsa never strayed far from its theme, using variants of it in all three movements? He was a consummate master of formal structure and orchestration, which is quite evident here. This is a great performance, and I appreciate the fact that it is complete.

The second movement...What a romantic piece!!! John Williams have taken a motive of this marvelous movement for the cloud city's sequence for the "Empire Strike Back", episode V, of the Star Wars saga...Everybody sais "John Williams music is inspired by Korngold...But and Rózsa?

Not all film composers are good at writing instrumental works - especially concerti. Rozsa proved that he could do it. He also wrote chamber music. I have met a few people who knew Rozsa. They revered him! I don't know who else has recorded this piece...or performed it. Because it is so difficult, and for the orchestra too, I doubt it will ever become standard literature but seriously, nobody knows what the future holds!

Many thanks for this excellent recording of the Rozsa concerto. Maybe a little more rubato on the wonderful phrase beginning at 19h28 and again at 19:49 would have given it more weight...

What an awesome work, other than the piccolo part.

I find this is a masterwork.I really do not understand people who think this is a second class concerto. In fact this is a first class Piano concerto by a first class composer performed by a great pianist and a formidable orchestra and conductor. Btw: The sound is very good! Is this from the published CD which had to much reverb or from the master tape bevore the sound mastering?I am just too lazy at this moment to go downstairs and listen to the CD. ;-)
