I can’t agree more with this. Kids are going to eventually learn swear words in their lives and it’s probably going to be from their parents. I also snap more when kids say the words stupid and dumb because other kids understand those words more. I'm not saying it's ok for kids to be cussing like a sailor I think (you don't have to agree with it just respect it) that we should keep an open mind about it and realize that parents are going to slip up in front of children. If you know anything about children they are sponges and repeat everything we say. We shouldn't freak out if they use the word in the right context. Just explain that those are grown up words and kids can't use them.

Honestly, it seems a little confusing to be ok with swear words, but not ok with words like dumb and stupid. Like I can totally picture a kid saying "this game is stupid/dumb" idk why would that be such a big deal.

no sorry this comment is a bit miss leading. If it slipped out of their mouths i wouldn't make a big deal about it. I'd just say that those are grown up words and kids can't use them. In my mind all kids understand the words stupid or dumb. If they call someone stupid or dumb in school that kids could already be struggling with school.

My boyfriend and I swear a lot in our house (boyfriend mostly) but our kids do not. They have never commented on us saying bad words until the day I let the word stupid slip out. My 9 yr old was all.. Ohhh you said the s word. I was very proud because stupid is not nice and my kids know it

Good work. A friend (ex friend now) called me stupid last week. I've been called lots of horrible things but being called stupid really makes you feel like less. Like you aren't even smart enough to interact with other beings in your species. It's just plain dehumanizing and cruel. At least when I'm being called a worthless fuck, I can rationalize that the person saying that is just angry and their words carry no meaning. When someone I care about calls me stupid... I delete their number and cry myself back to sleep... Fuck you Hailey.

Kids understand that there are many things adults can do that kids aren't allowed to do. Swearing is on that list. What about synonyms of the word stupid? Dumb, highly unintelligent, etc. As bad as the s(tupid) word is, the r word is way worse. I also see a difference between "you're stupid" and "that was a stupid thing to say/do".

I agree with mila also when I would tell my mom that I’m bored when I was little she would make me sit in my room and not come out until it was clean and since I was bored I obviously needed something to do. Lol

In this interview Mila Kunis talks about how she teaches her children that “stupid” is a bad word and never uses it. She swears like a sailor but doesn’t say stupid. Yet at 26 seconds in during another interview she freely uses the word stupid talking about advice from her mother. I think the video is called Mila Kunis loves her husband more than her. I will go and find it to get the title right but if you’re going to talk about how you don’t use a certain word ever then you probably shouldn’t use it lol

Din Probably because other kids their age are more likely to understand it, and it’s a personal jab. It’s putting someone down for something they can’t personally control and that’s wrong.
