Have been in a similar situation late at night managing a pizza store alone having a quick cigarette outside the back door. Pretty sure it was a fake handgun as they are heavily regulated in Australia and no civilian can legally possess a handgun, wasn't thinking just walked into the backdoor first and slammed the door in the robbers face and locked it. Sure corporate policy needs to encourage just complying as it is the better and safer option however expecting a person to act rationally and according to policy in a potential life threatening situation is unrealistic in some situations. Can't fire someone over fight or flight reaction when placed in a situation like that tho.

Having two employees at a time was something that came up a lot when I worked in a betting shop in the UK (We often worked alone). The excuse of not having 2 people working at the same time because it reduces profits is just absurd to me (although we were paid min wage and I know subways down here mostly pay min wage as well). 2 employees should be default because of health and safety measures. I know there are other safety measures in place if people were to randomly collapse at work. Like cameras and sensors to identify no movement. However if having 2 employees in the store makes it so your store will literally not make any money. Then you shouldn't be running a business to begin with. It does suck having to pay 2 people when there isn't any work for them to do, but equally forcing 1 person to work when there's a rush (2 peoples worth of work) is essentially the flip side to that. Equally the excuse of lack of customers means they are able to identify when it is and isn't busy, otherwise there wouldn't be periods with only 1 employee working. If they are able to identify when the stores gets majority of their custom then maybe they should just close the store during the hours they have identified it will be dead. I know these statement are a bit bold and I don't own a business myself, but i firmly believe 2 or more workers should be in the workplace at all time. Edit: I will add that I mainly only feel this way about customer facing environments.
@NoFlu Жыл бұрын
Have to hard disagree on that one. Especially in the Fast Food industry, the main advantage compared to a regular restaurant is that you can be open for the full durration of a day without closing down, because you only have one employee. Also, just opening the store during the main rush hours and closing during the other time is throwing away a whole bunch of revenue and making work hours unattractive. Most normal restaurants send their wait/kitchen staff home during afternoon hours if they follow a traditional noon/evening opening model. Also, saying that you shouldn't run a business if you can't afford to pay an additional employee to stand around and do nothing for most of the day, is dumb if you think about it for a bit. Overall, the chance of getting robbed in broad daylight (especially a fast food place) is rather low and the 2nd employee might not even help, if the robber is already so on the edge that he robs a store that's gonna carry like 2k max.
@StevesTutorials Жыл бұрын
@@NoFlu agree to disagree. You seem very head strong about your opinion. So I'm not going to attempt to changing it on a pricinple stanfpoint. However I still will say it should be illegal for employees to work alone because of health and safety reasons alone. I've simply just seen too many situations where people have injured themselves more than they should have due to not having anyone else available to help them. Heck it's only a handful of companies here who even have policies that allow lone working. (only worked 1 place that allowed it and you had to opt in). Most places have 2 mininimal AND some places even train at least 1 person to have emergency medical training. To avoid injuries or at the very least know how to see to an injury. So whether or not you agree to it, a lot of places already identify lone working isnt very health an safety friendly and avoid doing it.

It's called insurance and liability. An insurance company wants people to just hand over the money because it is the cheapest outcome. Even at a bank, the amount of money someone would get is less than what the insurance company would have to pay to cover medical bills for either the employee or the robber if something were to go wrong. The owner probably had to fire the employee so they didn't violate the insurance company's rules.

If I was in the situation and was able to out maneuver the man like she did, I would've taken the weapon from him, called the cops, and wait for them so I can hand off the weapon to them that way nobody gets hurt.

@itatchisasku what are they gonna sue me for? defending myself? What country or state law is this for god sake
@thehighground36302 жыл бұрын
@@ydgames4291 basically everyone. You are only allowed to use appropriate force to defend yourself. A firearm constitutes deadly force. By using the fire arms you are saying that deadly force was necessary to protect yourself. If you don't shoot to kill you admit it wasn't necessary. You open yourself to a lawsuit. Just shoot to kill or don't shoot at all. Shooting at legs also increases the risk of missing and hitting bystanders significantly.

I've always been told at anywhere I work that I would likely get fired if I ever fought back against a robber who wasn't clearly trying to hurt me. Its literally how it works, anyone who's shocked at the result has never worked retail in the last 10 years or so. (I say last 10 years or so because it probably wasn't this way in the past)

I live by a simple rule, no job is worth risking my life for. But still, major props to this woman who defended the Subway shop she doesn’t even own. Firing her for being a hero is just plain bananas. Like, why?

Personally it would depend on the gun and the angle. If I was in a position to immediately be shot, I wouldn't fight back. But if there was an opportunity to pounce (back turned, gun down, distracted, or ect), Hell I'd take it. If it was a short range gun like a pistol then I'd run. Again though, it's better not to fight back unless they're trying to kidnap you. Subway Self Defense classes yo, they should be a thing

My boss owns all 5 subways in our like 20 mile radius...and 3 of those store usually only have 1 maybe 2 people most of the time, but the one I work at is the busiest and our store by the mall being the second busiet, we need 3 people to actually run the store efficiently, there are many days where two people don't leave the station for hours

Subway as a corporate couldn't have fired the girl, they're not gonna monitor hundreds of thousands of workers daily and globally. A subway store is owned by an individual person and he gets to hire and fire people, sometimes change up the prices and he/she see fit. Subway as a corporate didn't do anything wrong in the case, I don't know what exactly happened, maybe there are more to the story, but if they're protesting they should protest that particular store, not the corporate
