After spending the past week in Florence and Milan, we’re leaving Italy and traveling to a killer 2-bedroom suite in the heart of Paris. By train. That takes 7 hours. And gets us into the city late enough that we’ll be cramming into a temporary room for the night and completing our journey about 24 hours from now.
Will this trip feel like a scenic and relaxing journey through the French countryside? Or a never-ending trek with eight bags and couple of tired and hungry kids? We’re about to find out.

ABOUT US
We’re the Lockwoods. And we’re traveling the world to experience-up close and in person-all the natural wonders and distinct cultures that our kids would otherwise be consuming only through textbooks and TV. We think it’s a better way to learn and we’re working hard to fund this little experiment in the hope that our kids will grow up wiser, kinder, and more grateful for the beauty of our diverse planet and its people.

Have a Merry Christmas Eve! We took a train into Paris from Belgium on a prior trip. One of the instances when it is faster than flying 😅. I’d love to be able to experience a sleeper train with a multi-day itinerary like the Orient Express. So expensive though. 😔

Oh yes! We’d love to experience the sleeper trains too. We’ve looked into them and haven’t found the right fit yet. It’s either not family friendly or outrageous prices. But I know someday we’ll do it!

I honestly really like train travel better than flying. More space, quieter, food whenever you want and seats are so much more comfortable. The upside to flying is just that it’s quicker. 😊

I didn't know Milano and Roma were the two biggest train stations in Europe. I've been to both. Yeah they were huge, but I could have sworn Zurich Hbf was bigger. And Paris (depending on which station) is also huge and has an excellent first class lounge. I am highly amused that you thought there might be meal service, but then I thought about it and some train lines DO have meal service. I'm thinking the train I took from Amsterdam airport to Brussels had meal service. But yeah, unless you are on a regional train, there is almost always a restaurant car. The quality of the food varies greatly depending on which train line you are riding (in my experience, Austria's öbb has the best food like restaurant quality stuff, and the worst was Deutsch Bahn was the worst food. TGV in France was okay I get claustrophobic, so the extra room on a train vs a plane is much nicer

ok the flight is 1 hour and a half, a tourists from a city center need to go to the airport 1 hour arrive airport and at 2hour at least 1hour before boriding and check, flight 1,30 (already at 4,30) , you arrive at paris areoport let say 30 min for the luggage and another 1 to arrive in city center total time 6h. Train starts alway from city center, so 15 min min to reach the station, 10 minut before the departure you arrive at the platform (zero check and zero weight limits for luggage), 7hour trip whit a lots of space, and than you arrive guess where in another city center.

Hi, did you have to show your Passports at any point during the train from Milan to Paris or the train from Florence to Italy?

No. They stopped and walked through at some point but I don’t remember showing passports. Italy and France have open borders between each other.

@AlwaysBeChanging

Thanks! I don’t remember if there were any items labeled gluten free but I think they had salad options. I think the safest bet might be to bring food on the train if you’re gluten free.

Your kids will be delighted to hear that when the Mont D'Ambin base tunnel is completed this 7 hour trip between Milan and Paris will be possible in 5 hours That will make the competition between taking a flight and jumping on the high speed train a 'no brainer'. And like you mention in this video . . . travel by train is 100 times less stressful than talking a flight . . .

the thing to do on a trip that long in europe is, if available, take the night train on a sleeper car. go to bed, and when you wake up its morning and you are at your destination. one less night paying for a hotel too.

We wanted to!!! But for some reason there weren’t any options for a sleeper train Milan to Paris when we were there. We really want to do that sometime.

Thanks for watching us 🤗. This was a year ago and I had heard there has been train strikes in some parts of Europe recently so that might be effecting train schedules. I would look on their websites to see if you can purchase online. Try Italia rail, or if you’re already in Europe go to the train station ahead of time and purchase tickets there.

ACTUALLY I just did a little looking around. You should try the app trainline. It looks like they have options and the app seems easy to use.

Oh c'mon.. 7 hours is not that long. I had so many 5 hours travels by train. Time flies and it feels not more thean 2-3 hours.. 🤷‍♀️ And train stations usually are in city centers. ;)

When we were looking we wanted a sleeper train but found that they stopped running it. I also heard recently that there is a train strike in Europe, not sure if that affects Italy or not but I wonder if it's contributing to fewer options.

@AlwaysBeChanging
@AlwaysBeChanging Жыл бұрын
The lack of more scenery footage has nothing to do with narcissism from us or our two children. Filming through glass is very difficult because it creates a lot of reflection and glare issues. We tried to capture the beautiful scenery, of course that was only possible in daylight too, but almost all the footage was unusable. I’m happy to share our raw footage with you. If you have any tips or tricks that would help, we’d love to learn! Have a great day.
