These units are very cool but the price is out of this world. I'm sure they are crafted nice but the hardware to make these is not that expensive so they should only be marginal more expensive than their normal non shape shifting version.

If you have any knowledge of a screwdriver it is possible to buy DIY kits inexpensively and do-it-yourself with very minimal basic read-directions-and - do-them skills and just supply your own mattress. I have seen the advertisements underneath the videos on KZfaq so just get online and type in "DIY Murphy bed/minimal skills". I have seen an ad while watching KZfaq underneath the video that was showing. Try adding the word kit after Murphy bed and see if you get different results. If you have a friend or can hire a local woodcrafter or cabinet builder , perhaps they could do it for you and just get the internal equipment: the lever arms , springs, continuous long hinge in a kit and have it done locally. You can also buy plans and diagrams for perhaps $5 to $10 USD. I'm just a girl and I built a doghouse or 2 in my day. I bet I could figure it out if I put my mind to it ,looked at a diagram of what I needed and go to the local hardware do-it-yourself store. I would build it slowly step-by-step, take my time, do it right and ask help when I needed it - if I needed it. All you have to do is have two side walls and a top ,which is basically a bottomless cabinet ; there should be a board bracing the 2 sides together horizontally across the back on the wall side ideally it should be attached to the wall (the cabinet and or the bracing board) like Ikea chest of drawers have some kind of bracket for that so does a DIY or hardware store; it should have a brace to attach the lever arms or bracket -whatever you call it to the interior cabinet; attach the frame or the big piece of board- whatever you're gonna use - to the bracket, now your bedframe is attached to the cabinet and your cabinet is attached to the wall- everything should be sturdy. There has to be a type of leg that will fold out to rest upon, it needs to be checked to see if it will be level if you r custom building those. If you're piecing it together the springs that you find for the lever mechanism, cannot be too strong that it tries to fold you up while you sleep , otherwise you simply need to sleep with most of your torso/body weight at the end of the bed where the legs are. You can have some doors made by a cabinet shop that look nice or make them yourself somehow cover with cloth put some quilt padding/batting underneath and pin down the edges, cover that with some wood trim or tuck it under at the edges and put those furniture tacks that are decorative along the edge , screw on a handle like a drawer handle or something else. See , totally doable. Oh I forgot there needs to be a strap to hold the mattress on to the platform that levers up-and-down that ca be released and bucked each time or build your mattress frame like a short sided drawer that is higher at the back, Meaning the side boards to your mattress drawer must be graduated from short too tall to meet up with a taller board at the wall and of your bed - dovetailed joinery would be a plus, Best the need for a carpenter, local wood worker or cabinet maker . So with a bit of figuring and a bit of advice from a professional or other handyman/person, a lot of measurements you can do it . Can't be that hard I watched somebody on KZfaq do it from scratch from his junk heap. They are a family that live in the desert and when each child reaches a certain age they get their own bedroom which means they "build a Earth bag house" for them they get to decorate it themselves, so there are videos with a kid's name and the words " build/earthbag studio" or "build/earthbag bedroom" in the title. The video you want if you can find it is a boy's name, And he's the last kid to grow up and get his own bedroom and a dog because that happens too so they won't be lonely in their new digs. The family's channel name has "homestead" in it... I wish I could help more than that. As far as I know the building of the Earth bag studio is probably the one you can ask for that will get you to the channel the Murphy bed custom built is not in that 1 so click onto the channel and find the video amongst of the others. I remember now , they have a "walkthrough of the MusArt studio" video. I think it is "mylittlehomestead" channel. Know why I can do it if I put my mind to it? Because I won't let anybody tell me I can't do it. Not even myself. If you don't tell yourself that you can't do it and apply yourself to checking it out as a possibility, it surely will be unless you are an inept human being at everything you touch. Don't psych yourself out - psych yourself up! Good luck

+S.R. Hurst The strap has the function convincing the mattress it is time to leave the storage cavity. Otherwise a suction causes the mattress to lag behind the foundation. That usually causes it to hang up and prevent the full cycle of lowering bed. I can assure you, you will not notice strap if properly installed.

it'd be a guest bedroom in your den. most of the time the bed isn't in use and during the holidays/when it is, it stays down. That's also why it doesn't matter as much as the others how fast it can change from one to the other.
