From Wikipedia:
Interstate 45 (I-45[a]) is a major Interstate Highway located entirely within the US state of Texas. While most Interstate routes which have numbers ending in "5" are cross-country north-south routes, I-45 is comparatively short, with the entire route located in Texas. Additionally, it has the shortest length of all the interstates that end in a "5." It connects the cities of Dallas and Houston, continuing southeast from Houston to Galveston over the Galveston Causeway to the Gulf of Mexico.
I-45 replaced U.S. Highway 75 (US 75) over its entire length, although portions of US 75 remained parallel to I-45 until its elimination south of Downtown Dallas in 1987. At the south end of I-45, State Highway 87 (SH 87, formerly part of US 75) continues into downtown Galveston. The north end is at I-30 in Downtown Dallas, where US 75 used the Good-Latimer Expressway. A short continuation, known by traffic reporters as the I-45 overhead,[3] signed as part of US 75, and officially I-345, continues north to the merge with the current end of US 75. Traffic can use State Highway Spur 366 (Spur 366, better known locally as the Woodall Rodgers Freeway) to connect to I-35E at the north end of I-345.
The portion of I-45 between downtown Houston and Galveston is known to Houston residents as the Gulf Freeway. The short elevated section of I-45, which forms the southern boundary of downtown Houston, is known as the Pierce Elevated after the surface street next to which the freeway runs, while north of I-10 it is known as the North Freeway. I-45 and I-345 in the Dallas area, north of the interchanges with I-20 and SH 310 (old US 75), is the Julius Schepps Freeway. The Gulf Freeway and North Freeway both include reversible high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes for busses and other high-occupancy vehicles to and from downtown Houston.
The freeway is the subject of ongoing controversy and federal investigation due to a proposed expansion project in Harris County, which would displace hundreds of people from their homes and worsen air quality.[4] The local authorities have opposed the expansion project, while the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) supports expansion, and negotiations are pending.[5][6] The project's estimated cost is at least $9.7 billion and is expected to take at least two decades to complete.

3:20:13 - At the end of I45N at the interchange with I30, the route actually changes to an unsigned I345. I345 runs about 1.5miles before it ends and ties with US75 at Spur366. As the route is currently unsigned and very short, its completely understandable that it is missed. Discussions have been held to decommission it from the Interstate Highway System. Another excellent video 🙂

Hi Thanks for this great video, I plan to go see the Total Solar Eclipse ( April 82024) and flying into Dallas is the cheapest ( from Chicago) and also to visit a friend in Houston area. So I wanted to see what the drive would be a bit like. I was concerned about the terrain being very "rocky" like near Austin, geez that ride from the airport was gridlock! This was so helpful. Good luck to everyone on our Roads in our beautiful country.

From the beginning of I-45 in Galveston to Downtown Houston, the I-45 is known as the Gulf Freeway. From Downtown Houston all the way until the interchange with I-20 in Dallas, the I-45 is known as the North Freeway. From the interchange with I-20 to its end in Downtown Dallas, the I-45 is known as the Julius Schepps Freeway.

2:03:48 ...June 2023... The most ferocious storm that I've ever driven in knocked down those electrical towers. Power lines stretched across the highway at ground level and slightly above stopped traffic in both directions for 7.5 hours. I've noticed since that the towers on both sides of the roadway have been replaced with two towers on each side that appear lower in height.

It’s great to see a portion of Texas highways without those ugly access roads. One of the worst things Texas did was built access, service, feeder roads. Not aesthetically pleasing at all and a blight to urban and rural landscapes. Glad no other state does that crap.
@AlldatJazz-rw9wy
@AlldatJazz-rw9wy 3 ай бұрын
You saying that means you don't understand big cities like Houston. Houston is so big, and has places all around, so the feeders are necessary, so you can get on where you need to. Too places and they are all spread out. Houston can grow outward because it's growth is circular, it's not hindered by 180 building like Chicago, or any other city that is built next to water, N.Y. included.
@StylistecS

@@AlldatJazz-rw9wy I absolutely understand big cities like Houston. Which is why Houston is one of the ugliest cities on the planet. Every city on the planet gets along fine with these eyesores. The only I mean only good thing about them is to escape traffic. That’s it. Everything is a huge negative. Houston could actually function better without them but it’s to late now. Worst idea ever.

@@StylistecS you seem like you have a issue with Houston, to which idgad, no one asked you like it, and if you think Houston is ugly, then you don't live on earth, because the ugliest city is NY. N.Y. has been the ugliest city for years, but your small mind is just full of hate, and that's sad state to be in. Keep all that hate bottled up, it seems to be helping you with your animosity, for Houston, hope your blood pressure medicine is on hand, seems like you need it....bad! And by the way get help for that mental condition, you need that too.

@@user-xt5ms1eo2e I know this is a little cute rivalry that you all have but outside of Texas, most people see Houston and Dallas the same. Extremely suburban in nature city, low denser sprawling, and car centric with similar diversity. Dallas is nothing. I repeat nothing like OKC. The only thing they have in common is the topography. Outside of that, these two cities are dissimilar. Inside loop 12 is not to different than inside loop 610. Your comment about adulting is true if you stay in the suburbs. But the city itself is not much different than Houston..
@StylistecS

@@user-xt5ms1eo2e very little of Houston gives anyone a tropical vibe. Perhaps you meant subtropical. Dallas is not a small town feel. That’s complete bs. They are more alike than LA is to SF or even Philly is to Pittsburgh.
