The control is not by countries but by global oligarchs. Noted historian Carroll Quigley, in his book Tragedy and Hope, said, roughly paraphrased, "the financial powers dominate the world through the central banking systems of the world. The system was to be controlled in a feudal fashion with frequent meetings. The central hub being the Bank for International Settlements based in Basil Switzerland. This system was to the direct benefit of all the mega bankers and the direct injury to all others."

About revolutions. One would argue that you did not have enough mass. Couple small countries can not resist Empire and develop. So, it is not a surprise if Cuba is not very attractive. Why not look on example of China or Lenin's NEP. Government look after industrialization, but the rest run in capitalist economy, with one exception. Banking. Under NEP private banks were prohibited. In China they are strictly controlled, but majority of banking done by goverment. Idea is to control market try control of flow of credit. That show itself to work. But again, Empire would not let it happen. China used Soviet Union as big scary thin to start process. But on other hand, empire are weakening, so may be there is an opportunity.

Interesting debate. From my perspective, here in Europe, Argentina presents as a strangely ambivalent nation which historically has repeatedly swung between political extremes in response to economic crises. But while the interference of US administrations has long been a factor and has always to be taken in to account the underlying political culture appears to be conservative.
