So much for the stolid and stupid critiques that Miles "could not play" or "sold out" in the 1980s--I saw his concert a few weeks after this one, Sept '85, Irvine Meadows, he came out in a turquoise bathrobe and slippers, and blew the place apart...

Miles invented 'too hip for the crowd'. I saw his electric stuff around then too and loved it.

It was the late 70's when he couldn't play. He never got back to where he was, but at this point the band basically does what it does and he wouldn't really be missed if he wasn't there.

@@flacidhouse350 you are saying but at this point the band basically does what it does and he wouldn't really be missed if he wasn't there. 1 the band was not gonna be there if it hadn't been miles 2 miles does what he does and puts and band he can together for what he wants 3 at this point bring all the bands you want together and miles is gonna be missed forever. respect.

Really glad I found this awesome music. I see some poorly thought out, judgmental comments below. Been wondering - is it possible Miles had hit the top and wanted to share the love? You know - let other musicians ride in on his shirttails? Seems he knew he was going to get plenty of attention just being him. It was really impressive to see him walk over to Robben Ford and put his hand on his shoulder. I just can't see runaway narcissism at all.

Miles at his worst is better than most at their best... because he wanted to listen. All of his bands, he wanted to hear what they would sound like. Miles just liked sound. Note how he uses his organ to play long sustained note and triggers chord changes with them. He was listening to the wave forms and melodies inside the wave and every other thing. What a composer.

Being a sax for Davis must of been an absolute mental torture even if the man himself was ''Nice'' to you to come play with him. He cried when Coltrane left he would've dropped Hendrix in a few years but not Coltrane, Miles never cried for anyone in his musical career, no shoes to fill but def a void to fill w Miles no matter what era, the sax was always a black hole w anyone w Davis. Yet Miles always pushed forward exposing the same talent he did in his Quintet and the one that pushed him.

Note to self: Don't push the tempo so much that the song suffers... Admittedly the musicality of the musicians is impressive to keep up with the tempo - but you only get basic fills and nothing impressive... I think that is what the other comments refer to... My assumption is that there was limited stage time and they had to push that hard to get the song down under 10 minutes... Check out the Montreal version of this song - for a much kinder tempo.
