Given the state of Federation medicine human life expectancy grew at a point 60 is the new 40. McCoy lived to 137 years. Miles was born 2328 , so he was 36 by TNG season 1 and 42 by 2370 (ds9)

I've often thought O'Brien wore his sleeves so short on DS9 was because he was often fixing things that went broke. After all, at the series first season, it seemed he only had three kinds of systems to worry about - those that were broken, others that were working so-so, and those which were going to fail disastrously at any moment.

Tbf, once you dislocate a joint, that joint is far more likely to become dislocated. I used to know someone who'd dislocate the same arm over and over again and he told me the more times it happened, the more easily it'd dislocate the next time.

There's a whole webcomic series called 'Chief O'Brien at work' that is just him by himself in the Transporter room trying to work out how to occupy his time while Riker secretly fucks Keiko. O'Brien went from spending all of his time by himself in the transporter room in TNG to spending all of his time fixing DS9.

The Chief suffered, but he didn't die much. I remember the era where Harry Kim, Daniel Jackson, Jack O'Neil, and John Chriton were having an episode by episode contest to see who could die the most. Sarcophagus heavy episodes and Groundhog Day episodes made the competition really swingy.

DS9 often did a great job with continuity from TNG.. here, you see that Obrien injured his shoulder kayaking in the holodeck in TNG, and then later, Bashir on DS9 warns him to stop kayaking before his shoulder heals... and then there are entire "Obrien must suffer" episodes on DS9.
