When the composer Takashi Tateishi started making music for this game, he was originally doing "cute" music, but the director told him to do "cool" music instead. The one song that survived that cute phase... Crash Man. (Also he didn't even know how popular the game or his music was until like a decade ago.)
@Chadius2 жыл бұрын
That... explains a lot about Crash Man's theme, hehe
@CarbonRollerCaco2 жыл бұрын
Wood Man's theme also sounds kinda cheery tho. Kind of like the themes for the first stages in older Sonic games; mixes between cute and cool.
@rabiroden2 жыл бұрын
@@CarbonRollerCaco Wood Man's theme apparently came about because the director liked the Wily 1 theme so much he asked for another song like it. btw all this info comes from an interview Tateishi did at MAGFest back in 2019. You can find a video of the panel on KZfaq. Protodude's site also has a breakdown of it somewhere.
@CarbonRollerCaco2 жыл бұрын
@@rabiroden So it's basically a cheerier version of Wily 1? Sounds about right. It'd be oddly fitting if Wood Man's stage were geographically closer to Wily's castle than any of the other starting stages. Not just for location practicality or atmosphere, but the forest itself would probably be the only sort of garden that could satisfy someone like Dr. Wily. :

MM2's soundtrack is so impressive to me. They get so much out of the sound chip, it rocks the fuck out!
@Shalakor2 жыл бұрын
And they just kept pushing the technical limits of NES's sound and graphics capabilities with each game in the series, as well as the precision of the controls, powers, and hit detection. It's literally impossible to match the levels of optimization games reached on the NES and SNES late in their cycles with any systems that have come since, and the systems of the same time and earlier as well. Some game developers just went in so hard.

I played this constantly growing up. My first Mega Man game and my second Capcom game after DuckTales, I absorbed so much Nintendo Power strategy info before even purchasing the cart (and yes I also heard Airman should be the first stage to beat which proves to be BS). I also didn’t play Hard Mode until way later. So many memories watching you play (and futilely yelling at you with trivia answers or solutions). Even with iconic elements like Rush, Proto Man, the Slide/Dash, and the Mega Buster Charge, this game still feels complete and as perfect as can be.
@CarbonRollerCaco2 жыл бұрын
As long as you're farming health along the way, Air Man's not that bad to Buster if you're constantly shooting, even outside Western Normal. Still sucks that it's a battle of attrition, but it's still easier than Quick Man or Crash Man.

Hell yeah, upload more retro playthroughs! Also, props for playing MM2 on the original difficulty. That setting gets ignored so often. (Also, "Normal" is insultingly easy.)
@CarbonRollerCaco2 жыл бұрын
Because we Western gamers were LIED TO and thought Normal really was normal with Difficult just being a bonus, thus most of our memories are based on Normal. In fairness, though, the game isn't well-play balanced because it barely had any time to be tested. Too bad most of the BS comes from stuff that doubling one's attack power can't offset.

That was nice stream. Never give up. Never surrender. Also, not sure if I get that comment about "playthoughs getting a chance to shine". Does it mean NES or other old-school games or like games Max played in his olden days of KZfaq? I mean, probably my favorite is still Guacamelee from back in 2013. It technically didn't get much attention, since it was so early in VoVideogames career, but it is a full playtrhough there, so I guess you could turn into few longer vidoes. Technically it did get more levels as is now a Super Turbo Championship Edition, so there's that.
