ECOWAS members should just swallow their pride and join the confederation as the reality is that the military leaders are for the rest of the African continent's aspirations of total self rule , determination in both political and economic independence. His basic assumption that ‘anti imperialism’ is what drives the decision making of the AES countries is the biggest flaw in his analysis. This leads him to draw wrong conclusions. These leaders are motivated by the lack of independence & sovereignty. The consequences are that they do not control their own state, it’s territory, their natural resources & decision making about their own future. It’s from this that all other challenges such as extreme levels of poverty, unemployment, insecurity, etc, emerge. Adopting an anti imperialist stance is thus a by product of reclaiming their independence & sovereignty.
