@joshuakang45074 жыл бұрын
Jay The Security Guy Mil-Spec also has to do with the material used, and yes Mil-Spec also is the dimensions of the product - a semiauto bcg without a full auto cutout isn’t Mil-Spec. The military specifically also asked for a cover and forward assist. And again, the material used is also part of a specification- obviously the m&p sport doesn’t use 7075 for their buffer tube since they won’t disclose what material they used (otherwise they would brag its 7075, since that’s a feature that is viewed as positive by prospective buyers)

A lot of people think "military issue" is some super high quality, top of the line, wicked neat tool, weapon or gear. However, if you've served I the military, I think both pogs and grunts can agree, "military issue" is quite literally "It's the cheapest working item we could outfit a couple hundred thousand people, that we can guarantee won't break after its first or second use, hopefully" haha, anything you can personalize and modify is always going to be better than standard issue anything.

But, how many fancy, lightweight, precision, $8k rifles can stand the abuse of garrison ranges and combat missions year after year, soldier issue after soldier issue? Our rifles went through hell, and most never had an issue. Same with pistols, optics, lights/lasers, nylon, radios/gps, NODs/binos, etc. A couple EFPs took out equipment, but that's a given. Last I saw on a supply sheet, an M4A1 cost the unit $760 or $770. Those things were tough for being so cheap.

@garyfontenot27865 жыл бұрын
@@TheTerriblePilot The government can't subsidize itself. The government contract requires so many units available not to go above a certain price point. Manufacturers are able to provide that, and make a lot of money doing it. As an example, do you really think a cheap M&P 15 costs $550? I'm going to go out on a limb, and guess they profit $250-$300 per unit sold at that price. Ever heard of a bell curve? Business' main priority is to make money. Not break even on a 40k unit military contract so they can be patriotic.

As a Marine combat vet my perspective is a bit different. Just for the record I was also on the 1st Marine Division Rifle-Pistol Team and after leaving active duty I competed for a few years in USPSA/IPSC. I can see that you also appear to be a competition shooter; probably much better than me. Given my experience in both areas, I see combat and competition as significantly different. Although competition shooting, especially CQC multi-gun competition, is excellent training for combat, as a sport it becomes so specialized that it leaves the realm of what Jeff Cooper would call “practical shooting” and becomes divorced from the real combat world, especially regarding the equipment. This is OK and fun to watch and do but is about as useful in real combat as Call of Duty. For example, for real combat there are factors considered in design that don’t appear in competition shooting. Such as extended fire-fights in full auto. We haven’t seen this much since WW2, Korea, and Vietnam but human wave attacks will once again become a reality if we find ourselves at war with China; something that is increasingly likely. In this situation reliability is paramount. Thus heavy barrels and highly durable military grade triggers. I know that it’s popular among gun store commandos to hang stuff on their rifles; rails, long hand-guards, lights, lasers, etc. Not me. Why? Basically because that stuff is heavy and in combat, weight is an important factor. One of the combat advantages of the M-4/M-16 is light weight, which makes it easier to carry and faster to point and shoot. In combat, a fraction of a second difference in bringing your rifle on target can mean life or death. A buddy was point man. He rounded a sharp bend on a narrow trail and found himself face-to-face with a bad guy carrying an AK-47 at high port. My Buddy was carrying his M-16 on a sling pointing forward. They were like six feet apart. He said for a fraction of a second that seemed longer they just looked at each other. Then the bad guy began to lower his AK but my buddy’s M-16 was already pointed at him, so he simply pulled the trigger. Point being that the fraction of a second difference saved his life. Personally, I don’t want any of that stuff. Give me a good reliable optic like an ACOG and that’s it. That said, I like Magpul furniture, including their slings. It’s light weight, high quality, and functional. Your “Gucci gun” is cool and terrific for competition but if I was going into combat, I would take the military grade rifle every time, which brings me to my perspective … combat and sports shooting are significantly different things with different considerations and risks. They should be prepared for differently. Choose the right tool for the job, so to speak. BTW, I enjoy your videos. They are informative and generally well done. I’m a gnarly old guy with a lot of trigger time. The problem with this is that as we get older we tend to develop opinions and sometimes attitudes that get rigid and not open to new ideas. I try to avoid that. Still, it’s difficult to ignore painful first-hand experience like combat. It’s one of those things that takes you back to the basics. Theory fades to black and necessity reigns. You shed the frills and accept your mortality. Things get real. I want my gear simple, fast, and fatal. I like my razor sharp Ka-Bar, not a pearl handled gold plated stiletto. I like a Glock 23 with a Trijicon RMR2 6.5moa; no fiddling … pull and shoot with both eyes open … great CQC. I carry a light but don’t want it on my pistol or rifle. It adds weight and makes me a target. NVG works. The only thing I want hanging on my rifle barrel is a suppressor. I’ll take extra ammo instead. Noise canceling headphones with amplification and comms. This is the short list.

The military straight abuses the SHIT out of everything it uses, which is why the stuff breaks down. Most civilians using milspec stuff or "military grade" hardware/equipment/etc. will get ALOT more milage out of it than most troops because they aren't going to the range or field every other month, or going on 9-12+ long deployments in austere environments.

Everybody thinks that this civilian rifle is just way better, that might be the case in these controlled drills but it will not be the same case in a warzone. military service rifles go through a magnitude of tests before they are selected to use, they go through torture tests, weather tests, reliability tests. That M4 will beat the shit out of that civilian rifle because it was made to be robust, hence the heavier barrel for example... That civilian rifle won't hold up as nicely in a long sustained firefight/battle than that M4 will because of what its purpose is, that civilian rifle was made to shoot on a range and not go through lakes, sand storms, -40C, get thrown around (literally), that M4 was made for a job and it is the rifle the US uses for a reason. So yes this civilian rifle is nice for ranges and what not but in a battle it would likely fail.

If you think a mid length gas system on a 14.5 barrel than you should check out a 14.8 barrel with a rifle length gas system. I just picked that up from SOT, and that thing is dope. You don't need anything special to run it. It's got a angled gas port that basically makes the gas system run more efficient.

In case anybody doesn't get it: Lewis Burwell "Chesty" Puller (June 26, 1898 - October 11, 1971) was a United States Marine Corps lieutenant general who, early in his military career, fought guerrillas in Haiti and Nicaragua in the 1920s and 1930s. In December 1928, Puller was assigned to the Nicaraguan National Guard detachment, where he was awarded his first Navy Cross for his actions from February 16 to August 19, 1930, when he led "five successive engagements against superior numbers of armed bandit forces." He returned stateside in July 1931 and completed the year-long Company Officers Course at Fort Benning, Georgia, thereafter returning to Nicaragua from September 20 to October 1, 1932, and was awarded a second Navy Cross. Puller led American Marines and Nicaraguan National Guardsmen into battle against Sandinista rebels in the last major engagement of the Sandino Rebellion near El Sauce on December 26, 1932. He later went on to serve with distinction in World War II and the Korean War. Puller is the most decorated Marine in American history. He is one of two U.S. servicemen awarded five Navy Crosses and one Army Distinguished Service Cross. Puller's five Crosses are next in number to the eight times Eddie Rickenbacker received the nation's second-highest military award for valor.

He has to have been one of the bravest, and toughest, men of all time! What saddens me the most is how most kids these days would consider an NFL star a hero, but have never heard of great men like Puller. Thanks public schools.

His son-in-law was also awarded a Navy Cross in 2005 for actions during the Battle of Khe Sanh in 1968.
