@@paulfollo8172 The F-35 is gonna become even MORE powerful because it mow has an AOA limiter that allows the plane to pull full 9gs and its damn near as maneuverable as the f-22. Hell it might as well be an air superiority or air dominance fighter. its also getting an insane new jet engine, slowly, day by day the F-35 is starting to become my favorite aircraft. The US is the only country to actually have real working stealth where other jets like the J-20 and SU-57 have to rely on specific angles to absorb radar waves

Marines fly both, the B and C variant. Each Navy Carrier has, 1 Marine unit that also uses the, C variant. Marines use the, B variant on the Us Navy/Marine Corps light Carreris. Most people think that the US just has 11 Carriers, but....adding in the Light/Marine Corps Carriers, there's actually around, 18 carriers
@shenmisheshou7002
@shenmisheshou7002 2 ай бұрын
The Marines don't have any carriers. The Marines operate off of Navy Ships, the Landing Helicopter Assault (LHA), and the Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD) These ships might resemble carriers, but they do not in normal times, function as such. Their mission is to transport Fleet Marine Force personnel and put them ashore as needed. Unlike a carrier, they are incapable of sustaining any prolonged military engagement. They carry limited ordinance for the aircraft and have very little hanger deck space. Mostly they are there to carry and shore Marines and their gear. An LHD will have about 1800 Marines and typically will carry 750 pallets of ammunition for those Marines, and a variety of other support logistics. It is essentially a reenforced Marine Battalion afloat. The aviation unit of Harriers or F-35s will typically be part of the Marine Expeditionary Unit Aviation Combat Element (ACE), and these are typically composite squadrons of several types of aircraft. While it may resemble an aircraft carrier, its role amphibious assault. That being said, one was used during the Gulf War as an attack platform for Harriers, but this is not really the mission of the ship.

@@nexpro6118 The Marines fund the operation of the ships, but the US Navy pays for the design and construction, and they are operated by the US Navy. The US Navy also provides the naval assets to protect them. The sea crew of these ships consists of naval personnel and the commander of the Landing Helicopter Assault (LHA) ship reports to the the United States Fleet Forces Command. The Marines aboard are responsible for themselves and the MEU Commanding Officer does not report to the Ships Caption other than as normal military rank structure demands. Its a navy ship. It goes where the Navy tells it to go, and they get their directions from their command structure, who get their directions from the CNO, who gets their directions from his command chain. The Marines have zero control of where the LHA goes. It is a naval asset, as is the entire Marine Corp.

The F-35 depends heavily on the sensors while it is in stealth mode to detect threats that may be intercepting on side or rear vectors. The F-35 radar cannot see in 360 degrees. One of the major reasons for the horrible full mission availability rate, about 14% for the F-35C are the sensors. If the sensors are out, the plane can only be "Mission avialable" and that means that it can fly non-stealth missions, but it would be used the same as the F-18, so little value to stealth when you are just running around with external bombs. (The F-35 is not invisible to radar and in fact it can be detected at well over 100 nautical miles by L and S band radar (both types used by Russian Federation and Peoples Republic of China). If a Dragon Eye radar sees an F-35 at 100 nautical miles, even though it can't lock on to it, it can vector a J-20 (which is not as stealthy as the F-35 but from a side or rear intercept, that makes zero difference) to a side or rear intercept, where the F-35 would be dependent on its sensor suite to let it know that an enemy aircraft was closing. It would be death to fly an F-35 into a tier 1 enemy integrated air defense network without all of your sensors working. The J-20 will catch up to you from the back and shoot you down before you know what happened. Stealth does not work without sensors. The B21 and B2 are far less likely to be seen by S and L band radar. The F-22 and F-35 are easy to see. That is why the Air Force and Navy are already begging congress for money to buy the NGAD, which will be much harder to see by S and L band radar.

@@garystewart3110 Because the US Goverement Accountability Office has reams of info on line about the problems with the F-35. Did you know that there are no war ready engines for the F-35 and there are not expected to be any until 2030? GAO report. Did you know that the F-35 is so expensive to fly that the Air Force is going to reduce the annual flight hours from the expected 240 average per year to less than 180 hours per year, and pilots that are trying to build hours so they can get airline jobs don't want to fly it because they complain they are not getting enough hours? Did you know that the full availability rate for the F-35C are only about 14%? Did you know that the turnaround time for an F-35 that needs depot maintenance was 140 days and is still over 110 days because the contractor does not provide the services with the documentation and special tools needed to do depot maintenance, so it has to be done by expensive contractors (government Depot maintenance turn around is more like 60 days for most similar planes). Did you know that the mission availability rate is only about 55% for the F-35C and only a bit better for the other versions? (This means the plane can fly at least one kind of mission it was designed to do, and this usually means be a simple bomber in most cases because the sensor or coating failures mean it can't fly stealth missions). You can read availability reports and program problems in reports that are on the GOA website. The program is a disaster. A good plane is only a good plane if it can go to war, and the F-35 is not a plane that is ready for a prolonged military engagement at this time. You can kill Jahadist leaders with it, but you can do that with a drone.

The F-35s are proving to be a major economic strain on the Air Force, Navy, and Marines. There are currently no War Ready Engines for the F-35, and there are not expected to be any until 2030. The services have conceded that the aircraft will never achieve the flight hour cost that was projected by the prime contractor and because of that they services have had to make a decision on whether to buy fewer F-35s or fly the F-35s fewer hours, and the choice the Air Force made was to reduce the annual hours from an average of 240 to less than 180. Most pilots don't want to be in F-35 squadrons because it will make it harder to get the necessary flight hours to get hired by an airline when they finish their tour. Instead, many are leaving to go to feeder lines for FedEx and UPS, which has long been the civilian route to getting an airline job. The Navy is currently short about 20% of pilots, and the Air Force has a shortage of about 1000. The Full Mission Availability rate for the F-35 is appallingly low (about 14% for the F-35C) and the mission availability rate on average is about 55% (Full Mission Availability is the ability for the model to fly any mission that it was designed to fly.. The mission availability rate is being available to fly at least ONE kind of mission the model is capable of flying. The problem for the F-35 is that many of the planes that are mission available are not stealth mission avialable, so can only really be used in the same combat mission as the F-18 of the F-16, depending on the service. At any given time, less than 40% of the F-35 fleet is capable of flying a deep penetration stealth mission. The contractor also did not provide the services with the necessary documentation and tools to do depot level maintenance, so this means that the DOD has to depend on the contractor to do major repairs and upgrades, and the contractor was taking an average of 140 days to turn around an aircraft, though at last report, this was down to 110 day. The Depot level maintenance of the Navy and Air Force typically has a 60 day turn around, but that is for more traditional planes. The extremely complex nature of these planes likely means that an 85 day turn around is probably likely, but at the current rate, that may not be achieved for another 4 to 5 years. Of course the current program costs is based on a normal inflation rate, but if inflation lingers, the program cost is likely go go higher than the current 1.7 to 1.8 trillion dollars. While everyone talks about how great the F-35 is, as an airplane, it is fine. As a defense program though, it has been a total disaster. Like the F-22, the F-35 will probably never face a Tier 1 opponent in a prolonged military engagement (the only F-22 kill was a balloon). As for being a deterrent, The Israelis have F-35s, and that did not deter Hamas from killing and kidnapping over a 1000 of its people, and the military might of NATO did not stop Putin from invading Ukraine. We spend trillions of dollars on planes that don't really deter anyone from anything and only ever shot down planes flown by Tier 3 opponents. No US fighter has shot down a plane operated by the Russian Federation, The USSR, or the Peoples Republic of China since 1970.

BVR combat has never proven effective, and empirical evidence shows it’s by far the least effective option used by pilots in air combat, even against incompetent adversaries. The fact that the F-35, is totally unable to operate in a turning fight, and has such a tiny payload, means if it’s unable to hit its targets(s) with BVR missiles that at best, hit their targets 50% of the time, or the situation doesn’t allow engaging BVR (rules of engagment), it is a dead duck. It can’t outrun most near-peer fighters. And that Wall Street marketing propaganda claiming it doesn’t need to point its nose to lock a target is nonsense. Sure, it can fire the aim-9x at a off-bore angle, but its effectiveness exponentially decreases the wide that angle becomes. And again, when it can only carry 4 missiles at most, who’s to say it will even be equipped with aim-9Xs when it needs them. It’s a very useful weapon, but it’s a mistake to try to use it for everything. It’s very useful as a reconnaissance, precision strike, electronic attack, BVR air-to-air weapon. But its limitations means it is not a viable air superiority or close air support weapon. It is best supplemented by a true air superiority fighter and cost-effective CAS weapons. The F-22, and ideally, something like the F-22 for the Navy. For most conventional war, it’s too complex and expensive to operate. So that’s where weapons like the A-10, F-16, F-18 still prove useful. That said, if our military were run strategically, we’d have 500 F-22s, 200 F-35B, 150 F-35A, 150 F-35C, and we’d be fielding an air superiority/fleet defense weapon comparable to the F-22 for the Navy, in at least numbers of 100+.

Issues that have been steadily improved over the course of the program. The new specifications of the F-35 make it a whole new beast unmatched by any other aircraft in terms of mission capability. The problem with the F-35 program initially was similar to the Zumwalt Class destroyers, in which, at the time, the request was basically as much new tech that wasn't capable of being delivered on in a fighter. Now, that isn't the case. We actually have the tech now to deliver on the F-35's designated capabilities. It's right now the most advanced, most versatile, and most capable fighter in the world. As of right now, the limitations of the F-35 are exteneral, with a lack of maintenance equipment and crew with the knowledge of how to maintain the fighter.
@BasicBobby

Why? You never answered whether it even returns any positive value against any thoughtful baselines. Wow, listen to all of these big words! Wow, it’s stealthy and fifth generation!! Wow all of these pilots say it’s so great! Yeah, what does any of that mean? Is any of it objective? Were the pilots influenced to give positive reviews, with financial or career incentives? To anyone wondering if the F-35C helps makes us marginally safer vs. alternative technologies-yeah nobody has ever publically answered that question in a scientific, analytical way. Feels like a PR campaign. And the objective tests we have had, by the Pentagon’s office of operational testing, have seemingly been sabotaged and obfuscated. Not really a vote of confidence. One of these things seems to crash every week, and that’s in the rare event they’re even able to fly in the first place. It seems like a monumentally expensive piece of bloatware, failing against old technologies in the few objective tests it has seen. And when actual objective and uncompromised data scientists from the Pentagon have blown the whistle, they were quickly shouted down by a sea of trolls and/or careerist pilots on the payroll of the world’s largest defense contractors. The thing has unimpressive range, can’t turn, has a terribly inaccurate and unreliable gun that carries a tiny number of rounds; it carries the exact same missiles that the planes it’s replacing rely on, but in smaller number; it’s a fraction as reliable or as durable of the older designs it’s replacing and multiple times more expensive to operate; it’s slow, it’s avionics are largely just newer versions of the same technologies we’ve been relying on for a half century, it’s unarmored and its supposed stealth is way overstated. It’s only stealthy from front aspect, it’s not at all stealthy from rear aspect, and while it has a measure of stealth against radar, it has a massive IR signature. Tell me where I’m wrong? Get better missiles, with better sensors, that are able to defeat countermeasures, and are able to actively track targets longer, and have a higher kill rate from farther away and forget the delivery vehicle altogether. If you have missiles that can hit targets reliably, from farther than any enemy can see you or shoot you, it doesn’t matter if it’s a B-52 or Reaper or a F-18E or a F-35C launching the missile…there’s been a population in the DOD and Air Force who have been beating this drum for decades, but they always seem to get shouted down by lobbyists, salespeople and generals, but there’s never a retort of any substance. It’s just-stop asking questions and buy this expensive plane!!

The reason why the US navy and Airforce are procuring 100 F-15 and FA-18 is because the Generals are well aware of the failures and structural flaws of this aircraft. The problem stems from the fact that testing are still not finished they started full production. Now even after more than 2 decade of production problem still exist. Also upgrade of older F35 to bring it uptp date are expensive as procuring new jets. Even the F22 after decades it stopped production its readiness rate is so low that even the US govermment want to retire it prematurely.

"The reason why the US navy and Airforce are procuring 100 F-15 and FA-18 is because the Generals are well aware of the failures and structural flaws of this aircraft."(sic) Incorrect on both counts. The overwhelming majority of the F-15EXs being procured are slated to replace long in the tooth ANG F-15Cs to be used in the homeland defense role. The F-35A was never slated to replace the F-15. The NDAA added 11 F-35As above what the administration had requested. Total FY2023 F-35 funding amounts to $10.6 billion. The Super Bug line is being kept open largely as a jobs program as well as Congress not believing that the Navy will be able to effectively manage its strike fighter shortage. Congress is forcing the Navy to buy aircraft it doesn't want. NAVAIR would prefer to spend that money on the F/A-XX. Given the poor state of current leadership, morale, retention and shipbuilding the money intended for procuring more than the 16 F-35Cs in the FY2023 budget is being directed elsewhere.

The reason being that the block 20 raptors avionics are dated and can´t interoperate with block 30/35 and thus has been used as trainers and to keep flight hours down on block 30/35 which are the combat ready versions. There are 149 block 30/35 airframes produced including upgraded block 20. (At least 6 has been lost in crashes but I'm unaware of the block #, and additional airframes may have been retired due to structural damage, or end of service life). Btw. The F-15EX serves to bridge the gap until F/A-XX becomes operational. It´s not an option to "spend that money" on a program in development, given operational readiness requirements. Keeping production lines open is not a jobs program per say, (although inter state competition for these programs exist for job reasons), but are calculated expenditure vs. restarting production capability. Closed production lines were the reason F-22 were not produced in greater numbers even if congress wanted to finance it in the early 2000´s. Have a nice day.
