I watched multiple videos on how to prepare them and just harvested and cooked some up tonight. About 30 minutes after eating I got extremely nauseated with cold flashes for hours. I looked it up and you’re supposed to boil the pods and change the water in the pot 3-4 times before sautéing or frying them, to insure the poisonous milk sap is able to be consumed safely. I’m not allergic to them, that’s just how it’s supposed to be done. Wanted to say something to possibly prevent someone else from getting mildly poisoned.

Thanks for the lesson!!! Suggetion,....dry your pods before you bread. Double dip in the egg and flour. The breading will stick more and you will get a crisper crust. Great video.

I get Lambs-quarter and purslane growing in my yard! It’s good to see this stuff on your channel. Vegetation often produces more food than a person can effectively hunt animals and get. At least that’s the case in this New Mexico desert! Love your videos!

What they kinda look like and the way you cooked them. Is Okra. We eat a lot of it down here in the south in the summer time.

I’ve always boiled them changing the boiling water every two minutes through four times. Tastes like a cross between cabbage and asparagus. Love it.

When I was a kid my parents use to pick these off fences and bring them home to eat. They would throw them in a soup with some pork and when cooked they became very yummy greens to eat. Like you said you want to get them young when they're smooth on the outside!

I love this - it's great to see this get some attention - Free Food! My kids, every Spring would go out and gather the new blooms from the dandelions outside. I'd wash 'em up, use the egg and flour for batter, and fried up, they're GREAT! The first time I ever had some, I asked my mom, "Where did you get the mushrooms from?!" They taste a lot like morel mushrooms do, with an egg batter, fried. Maybe you could do a video on those - along with jewel weed, stinging nettles, and wild violets. Good food!

You can do the same thing with yellow dandelion blooms. They taste a lot like fried morrel mushrooms. They are yummy, my mother in law used to make them a lot.

Thanks for sharing this. Awesome video. I get milkweed as an invasive in my blueberry and raspberry patches and pull it out often. Maybe I'll let an out-of-the-way patch grow to maturity and try cooking up a batch. "Bring water to the boil". I love regional dialect. Sounds British to me ;) We'd say "to a boil" in New England.

Just what I was looking for! I cut them off anyway so the seeds don't go all over, they do plenty of root spreading! I started with 2 3 years ago, now there are at least 70 I mow around.

I recall reading in a wild edibles book that there are 3 species of milk weed and only one is edible the others are poisonous.

Love it! Would enjoy more easily identifiable wild edibles. Much more of a meat eater BUT it's a valuable skill for the toolbox! Thank you!!

If you don't have eggs with you, you can dip the seed pods in a mixture of water and flour. It's kind of like tempura batter, but not as light.

Look's delicious, maybe a little salt and pepper...I'm wondering what could substitute for the egg and flour in a sheer dire straight up bonified bug out shtf survival situation if you couldn't locate any wild bird eggs. You could stone grind seeds, acorns and other wild nuts aswell as some other types of plant lifes into a flour but what could you use to substitute for egg that would bind the flour to the pod's, maybe some rawhide glue would work. You got any ideas ?

I discovered a plant, Milkweed Vine. The fruit from the vine looks the same as milkweed fruit. I do not think it is edible though, as every source I found thus far, says it is poison.

Hear a lot about them being mildly toxic just throws me off a bit.
