My father was born and grew up in Cambuslang he died 7 years ago, his name was James alan spence, he was from Greenleas Rd, born in 1930.His grandfather was JR Robertson, president of the Clyde Steelworks, I do miss him so much( I am half english and half scots) he married my mother and stayed in England after 1968.He was an avid rugby union fan and player, I hope to one day explore Cambuslang, as I only really remember visiting my scottish granny's house and not much of the area, still got family in Glasgow though

Thank you for sharing. I lived on Eden Place in Halfway from 1971 to 1975 and now live in California. It was fun watching this.

Just found your video and must say thank you! Doing some research on my family and I learned that in 1909, my great grandfather James McClymont Abernethy and his young bride Helen Hay Muir packed up and left Cambuslang Lanarkshire and headed to San Francisco California USA. I'm now getting up in years and wish I could make the trip there to see the family gravestones and anything else from so long ago. Again thank you for posting this video.

At 1:46 Just blew my mind! I've seen this footage before but now I realise where it is and the vantage point. I only learned a few years back that there were TWO bridges there. If you look on Google maps you can actually see faint remnants of where the other line went via tree lines etc, connecting to the bridge at Carmyle and beyond. There was apparently a sidings at howieshill rd at one point which was used during the war (wars?) as a drop off point for wounded soldiers to reach Gateside which was converted into a hospital.

thanks for posting this. I grew up in Ettrick Court in the Scottish Specials from 1974- 1991. I recognise more from the old footage than I do whenever I visit Halfway now. Sad how we've lost all the open spaces

Chris M thats excellent!! I lived at number 30 with my grandparents, aunt and uncle. Even though I moved away, I still visited my family. My grandparenst passed away in 1999, but my uncle is still there, I think.

Just came across this lovely footage after looking at the Hallside Steelworks. My grandmother lived at No.1 Hallside which is shown at the end of the Steelworks series of photos. Her father was the steelworks mill manager in 1907. By sheer coincidence his namesake is shown halfway through this video in what appears to be a credit which gives the film-maker's name -one James Blair! How strange that was for my search. Maybe he was related to the earlier James Blair - it seems quite likely as there are shots of the tennis courts which were at the side of the Hallside officials houses.

How did you get a hold of that video? I've been looking for something like that for years. I'm astounded at that, and the quality is so good for the time. Im 37 and lived in Halfway since 1972, grown up here and know all the wee country roads that were shown there. I just want to thank you for putting this on youtube. It got my mind going as to what was here before we arrived. Thanx so much :)

I can identify 95% of the places but do not yet have the experise to add comments to the film clip. It looks like the guy went on a walkabout whic went in a circle Halfway>Hallside>Letterickhills>Gilberfield Rd>Piggery Brae>Kirkhill>ending at Silverbanks.

Nothing changed much , halfway was a dump then , now it’s just a shithole. Climbed to the top of the castle a few times. Not very much of it left now.
