Kate Bush is pure feminine energy in a very powerful being. There was nobody like her at the time, in fact there weren't many women auteurs in 1978, she was something of a pioneer by having full artistic control over her music, videos & staging. Surely a genius.

I remember vividly the first time I heard this on the radio, back in 1978. I stood transfixed, unable to believe what I was hearing. Not just the unique sound, but at the thought that a 19 yo could write such a song. It was so far ahead of its time. And it introduced me to the genius that is Kate, who has been an essential part of my life ever since.

I loved your reactions! The book is not for everybody - for one it's complicated from a narrative perspective. There is an unreliable narrator so we never actually hear Catherine's voice. And the second thing is it is quite unnerving because it doesn't have a happy ending. You feel irritation for the characters and their choices. But it is the closest thing to real life and the complexity of the human character. I would reccomend the film version with Tom Hardy and Charlotte Riley. It was so intense and passionate they ended up falling in love and marrying in real life.

"Wuthering Heights"! Yes, this song by Kate Bush has a phenomenal energy, and the lyrics of the song are quite enigmatic, but very thought-provoking for those who don't know Emily Bronte's eponymous novel. Perfect is the adjective for this combination of singer, song, lyrics, interpretation, arrangement and performance in the video. One of the most beautiful things ever released on the world music scene; visceral! Congratulations on the choice and the analysis too.

dramatic soprano doesn't mean a soprano who sings high, or is dramatic, it means a really heavy, full bodied voice that sings in the soprano range, like the kind you'd find in a Wagner Opera. The guitar player at the end is... David GILMOUR from Pink Floyd. He produces this album from Kate Bush. Somewhere he is her musical Godfather.
@mvellis38632 жыл бұрын
Not Gilmour on that solo. It was Ian Bairnson (from The Alan Parsons Project) who recorded the studio version. On her concert tour, Alan Murphy played the solo. David Gilmour discovered Kate when she was 15 and put up the money for her to record 3 demos of her songs that he picked out, and got her signed with EMI. He later recorded background vocals for her on the song "Pull Out The Pin" from The Dreaming album. Gilmour played guitar on two tracks ("Love And Anger" and "Rockets Tail") from The Sensual World album. They also performed together live a few times (at the Amnesty International Secret Policeman's Ball 3 charity concert, where they did "Running Up That Hill," and Kate appeared at one of Gilmour's solo concerts where she performed "Comfortably Numb" with him).

Nada contra A Lisa, mas para os desinformados do passado e de hoje, Kate é um fenômeno impossível de se repetir! Ela nasceu com um dom e não é nenhuma produção do passado ou do momento que irá se comparar com seu talento único! If she just stood at the mic and sang like Edith Piaf it would still be a great song. But the dance, the moves, the eyes (!!) the whole thing. The camera work is of its age, it uses its technology to reinforce she's a ghost. It totally captures the essence (I think) of the character and the ghost out on the moors. It captures that the character isn't all one way, she's impetuous and made wrong choices (in some of Kate Bush's performances there's a childishness to some of the lyrics which again I think connect to the selfishness and immaturity of the character in her life) but comes back to her one true love, wandering on the moors as a ghost trying to get in through the window. Is there anything better than this? Who can you compare Kate Bush to? In truth, no one. She's her own artist, did her own art form in voice and dance and the whole thing is just wonderful.
