The DownDraft plasma cutter table is finally done and it works like it is supposed to. Whew!
The miller fume extractor is awesome. And when I hook it up to the plasma cutting table, you can't even smell anything when I light a wad of newspapers on fire. This miller fume extractor sucks 875 cfm and that might not sound like a lot but it does the job of getting rid of welding and cutting fumes like a champ. Now I can use my plasma cutter without all the fumes and smoke. When I need to make a quick cut on some angle iron or flat plate, it is breeze.

Brilliant video to finish off a great series! Not only have I learned plenty of welding tips and tricks, your whole fabrication method and workshop attitude is brilliant! It's a rare combination to find someone as skilled who can articulate it and pass your knowledge onto others the way you can! Thanks for being a great teacher!

Nice trick on the vise handle, I like your tip of wrapping the stranded wire around to keep the splatter off the threads. Liked and Subscribed.

Great video as usual, thanks for sharing. In the event you want to increase the suction you can also just below your flat bars place multiple inverted angles (like an upside down v but widen the bend angle) with about a one inch gap between them and it will still divert the sparks and create a greater suction on the table.

That turned out good Jody, good job. We have the wall mounted version of the Miller fume extractor and it works good for welding, not so good for our cnc plasma cutter. I'm thinking on making a downdraft for it, then it would work better.

Nice video and good work. To ensure that the plasma bench works AND provides adequate control ACGIH provides a design guide that will give you the correct air flow rates (both down flow and duct transport velocities) of this type of application. Also, you should use extraction to remove the fumes when building this bench - protect yourself!

Jody, top work as always. Could you do a more detailed video on TIG Silicone bronze? I have MIG brazing wire (.8mm) that I have had great TIG success with on DC- at low currents, but I would appreciate a video from you on how you do it. I have tried 'regular' brazing wire on DC- but the zinc content makes it so unpleasant to use. Cheers from the UK

Great vid man! I think i might steel your idea for the table. I am forever moving out side to plasma cut. I even have some exploded spots in my nice concrete floor from hot dross hitting it. I honestly don't have money for a fume extractor but i might use a high volume electric fan via tube to the table to hook to my garage door exhaust vent hole to at least vent some of the fumes outside.

+TODD FINK I've been thinking about doing the same home-brewed thing you are. I can only afford to buy an everlast plasma cutter and a decent air compressor. Nothing left in the budget for a fume extractor but maybe a high volume fan and some fire resistant tubing to the outside. I can make the table.

ALWAYS use ventilators and respirators. Metal particulates and metal/gas fumes are the final realm of safety welding culture is realizing. I work for a millwright company and I don't know a single old-timer welder who doesn't have some disease or disorder that could potentially be tied to long-term fume exposure. COPD, Parkinson's like tremors, neurological issues, various cancers.
