Here's to the woman who sang at the opening of the New York World's Fair in April of 1964. It doesn't hurt to have a young Rod Stewart on harmonica! He was having fun admiring a still-alive Sam Cooke back in mid '64.❤

Originally recorded by Barbie Gaye in New York with a shuffle beat. She had a fair sized hit but the recording was under the control of the infamous gangster Morris Levy who stole writing credits off Spencer and Roberts. Chris Blackwell was in New York where he would buy singles and bring tape recordings back to London. The song was on the tape and this he chose for Millie to record in a Ska, shuffle, bluebeat style. Only kept off the number one spot by The Four Pennies with Juliet. Enhanced reggae music popularity and very infectious. Great sound Pat. Does improve your original remix.

I first learned that she was the one who made this song a hit when it was used at the opening ceremony of the London Olympics. Until then, I had only heard it through 80's hits by British ska groups. It's a bright and fun song that has stuck in my ears for a long time. Good stereo remix.🔊🎧👍

Dear Pat, this song brings back childhood memories for me. In 1974, Maggie May had a hit with this song in german in the ZDF Hit Parade with Dieter Thomas Heck. By today's standards, this was a strange event. But, well, there were only two TV stations in Germany back then. So thank you for today's upload - as always in fantastic quality and congratulations on Nottingham Forrest playing in the Premier League next season.

Great job you put the drums in the middle , ha ha. One of my favorite songs. It's difficult to tell from all the sources including Rod Stewart interviews if he played on harmonica on this track , all the sources conflict with each other. Theres no doubt he was there from what he said but did he actually play that track because the producer saids no.
@radiowollaton85212 ай бұрын
I like to think that it was Rod !
@danielbanic37382 ай бұрын
@@radiowollaton8521 What could have happened was the producer did'nt want to give him credit for money reasons or mayby he was used on a diffrent session or it could just be Rod and the producer have terrible memorries , ha ha
