I grew up fishing a double pond kind of like yours but idk if that's like a dam between the 2 but thats how ours were and grew up fishing those ponds from mabey 3 or 4 yrs old till my late 20s n my gpa passed away and sold the ponds and the land and he had built a cool ass cabin on In too. Some of the best memories of my life brother. Your boys will never forget this trust me. Keep it up. Outstanding man..🤙😁✊✌

Cat fish eat bass eggs off beds, and all of those other fish compete with bass for food. Bass would basically die out sadly

3/8oz slip weight, snap swivel, and treble hook armed with chicken liver works wonders on pond cats. Poke the eye and shank thru the center of liver chunk and direct connect to swivel.

I would research the use of the gypsum more. I know when it's wet it's like a clay texture & it may kill off your vegetation. I can see the snapper killing the fish especially when they were small. To clear your pond maybe make a waterfall so that the water will go over rocks to clean it like a coy pond.

You might try one of those castable sonar pods that connect to your phone to check out how the population is doing. they aren't expensive and might be a better first option than a one way path to changing the fish habitat

Asked a cousin who is in fisheries and a response was if you put any big blue or flatheads in that pond with the rest the chances are that big catfish is the reason the fish levels are low. A few large blues or especially flatheads can clean out a pond as its hard to support them due to how much they eat. They eat other catfish too! You might have a big one in there chomping all your small ones. Its a common problem in farm ponds where people try to stock big flatheads in the midwest, apparently.

If the smaller pond is only 5' deep, you should add an aerator. Texas summers can be rough on small shallow ponds. Get some water moving and more oxygen. An aerator will also help clear the water strangely enough. We gained a foot of visibility by adding two aerators to our pond and our fish are thriving now. You just have to wean them onto it tho. If you just put one in full blast and leave it on, your pond will turn over and the fish will die. Start at 30 min a day and work your way up. Your fish will thank you and your pond overall will be healthier. It helps the gunk at the bottom decay faster and makes it cleaner. Look up the benefits

Catfish are nocturnal species and if left without challenger predator species etc, They will actually become very docile during the day, which is what you are experiencing. It looked to be a very clear and sunny day, catfish don't actively seek out bait/prey during the day unless it is placed right in front of them. Catfish that size won't even search during the day hours for scented bait, which is what you were using. Had it been an overcast day, light pressure. Maybe even some rain. Those catfish would be blowing up. Try coming back during the dusk hours next time and take measurements then. Also, catfish LOVE glowsticks! Use glowsticks attached to sinkers/bobbers, but please ensure they are eco friendly. Don't want chemicals ending up in your pond! Cheers!

Get some floating fish food, soak in water for twenty seconds, let stand for about 30 or 40 minutes and then mold on small hook. The catfish will bite as this is what they are used to eating.

I don't know if this is even actually feasible but would you consider digging out the section between the two ponds and combing them for a bigger body of water for your fish to grow in? Might be a lot of fun if there's enough water for them!

Your backyard is like heaven. I don’t think I’d spend much time trying to catch those catfish when you got huge aggressive bass a few feet away. You get to fish those Texas lakes for huge studs in the teens and then when you’re home you can just go out in the backyard and catch giant bass on topwater or however you want to catch them that day. You’re living the dream Ben!!

Everything I've read says you shouldn't stock crappie in a pond that small. They reproduce in great numbers and have a tendency to overpopulate. But with a pellet feeder, you should still be able to grow catfish. They don't like stink bait very much. You're better off fishing with nightcrawlers, cut bait, raw chicken, and live minnows. Get a cast net and catch the crappie for catfish bait. If you want the catfish to reproduce, sink some sections of PVC pipe big enough for them to spawn inside.

Do you ever have trouble with muskrats or otters eating your fish? I had my 4 acre lake lake full of large fish (channel cat, crappie, and bass) 7 or 8 years ago. Then got it cleaned out by otters right after that. Seen their droppings with scales in it all around the lake too. Ended up trapping and/shooting them until they were all gone. Quickly restocked and had a lot of large fish again up until a couple years ago. Then had another critter problem and could barely catch anything besides bluegill last summer. So far this spring I've only seen one muskrat and I got rid of it. Went fishing several times and have only caught a couple bluegill again. Located in West Central Illinois.

Get a good aerator for your catfish pond don't let the oxygen levels get to low the first fish to die from oxygen starvation it catfish!!!!!! Also if you get a sample of the water tested you can see what is causing all the green algae that's not just muddy water it's a small pond so algae can easily sap all the oxygen out of the water!!!

I live in north Florida. Stocked my 1 acre pond, roughly 8 feet deep, with channels, bluegill, and bass. Roughly 6 years ago. Will be 6 years in June so next month. I have fed them well. So far my biggest channel was 22lbs. 5-10lb is very common. None of them were over 3 inches when they went in. Biggest bluegill 1lb 5oz. Biggest largemouth. 11lb 5oz. Pond was pure grass which I cleared out and there were zero fish I stocked it. Nothing but turtles, which I got all of out. Never feed before you fish. They get accustomed to only eating what you feed them. I find for catfish chicken, the stinkier the better, works best. Or cut up a bluegill.

You want something that will catch catfish and is nasty as the day is long, try BeeJay stink bait. It comes in a jar like peanut butter and stinks to high heaven. It's kind of hard to keep on the hook, though, so don't be afraid to add a pinch of flour or something to make it stick a little better. The only more reliable bait I know of is chicken gizzards.

Catfish punch bait is easier to use than magic bait because it comes in jars or tubs and all you have to do after you use it is put the lid back on it and it works better than magic bait because some of it comes off in the water causing a scent trail and all you need is a bare treble hook and push it in and pull out at a angle and trust me it's deadly
