@@katherinesmith6689 the answer is in the first part of the question. It's set up. Before you cut an inch you have to set up the mill on a flat surface, garage floor is decent enough, and then mount the saw to the mill, there are 3 set screws with nuts on them. Use them to square the bar over your bunks. It's easier to do without the chain on the bar. Once you are set you likely will not have to adjust. I did it once and I cut square for the entirety of my milling. When I get back to it I'm going to build tracks a ramp and a hand winch on a leveling base. Should be pretty slick.

Super cutting machine. Are you using a classic chain 1.6mm = 0.63" and ground to a 10 degree tooth angle?

I'm using a Oregon Rip cut chain, it is a 0.050 gauge semi chisel profile with a 10deg grind.

I really enjoyed this video, been on a fence about either a Granberg,a bandsaw mill or this mill. I want to make dimensional lumber and beams. It has to be portable and versatile....so I can mill longer length lumber
@whereswadlow44
@whereswadlow44 Жыл бұрын
If you want to make lumber efficiently I suggest a bandsaw mill on a trailer. This mill is more portable for remote areas ect. But it's way more work.

@@whereswadlow44 definitely slower. I do have a mill but I can only do logs up to about 27inche dia. Was hoping one of these would work on the larger logs more then 27 inches. Whats the largest youve done? Whats the largest you suggest is capable? (not worried about speed). I know this is a PM14. i have seen a PM00390 but cant seem to find it on the internet. Do you know if the 14 is the same as the 00390? Thanks in advance if you respond.lol I know its an old vid.

@@BrnTanHides I'd have to measure but I would say no more than 20". If you need to push out past 27" I would suggest an Alaska mill. Follow @millbillies on Instagram, they're regularly stabbing stuff well over 40" with chainsaw.

I have an Alaskan. I've slabbed upto a 42" log. According to the manufacturer, the pm 14 is maxed out at 24" bar length because how the saw mounts.

Electric motor is definitely the way to go. So much quieter and more torque for the chain as well.

An Electric motor kinda lacks the portability that makes the "portamill" good for packing into remote areas

I should have bought the tracks. I have a welder now, I plan on getting some and building a winch and ramps.
