Originally it is a Latvian song. Dāvāja MāriņaMara is a godes, who gave the life to little girl, but forgot to give happiness)ost popular song by Raimonds Pauls with the words of Leon Briedis. First recorded in 1981 by singer Aija Kukule. Translated into Russian by Andrejs Voznesesenks as "A Million Pink Roses" Already in 1982, the song performed by Alla Pugacheva became very popular in the USSR, soon also in Finland and Hungary. It became a very popular karaoke song in Japan, Korea and Vietnam. We latvians love this song!

Le célèbre peintre primitiviste géorgien Niko Pirosmani (Nikolay Pirosmanashvili) vécut entre 1862 et 1918. Durant sa vie, il vécut dans la pauvreté et fut souvent contraint de peindre en échange de nourriture; la vraie gloire ne lui vint qu'après sa mort. Sa notoriété mondiale augmenta également en raison de son histoire touchante liée à l’amour qu’il éprouvait pour une actrice étrangère. Cette histoire devint particulièrement célèbre grâce à la chanson de la chanteuse russe Alla Pugacheva "Million Scarlet roses" (Million de roses rouges) qui parle de cet artiste géorgien. A l’époque, toute l'Union soviétique connaissait cette chanson par cœur. Alors, de quoi parle cette histoire ? En mars 1909, l’actrice française Marguerite de Sèvres se produit à Tiflis. Niko Pirosmani, émerveillé par son talent et par sa beauté, tombe immédiatement amoureux. Il est dit que beaucoup d'hommes sont tombés amoureux d'elle, mais que Marguerite demeura toujours inaccessible. "Si vous êtes un artiste national et appartenez à la nation entière, vous ne devriez pas appartenir à une seule personne", tel était son opinion. L'amour du peintre gênait Marguerite. Certains disent qu'il l'attendait près de sa maison et quand elle ne lui prêtait pas attention, il s’agenouillait, pleurait et embrassait le sol là où elle passait. Pirosmani peint le portrait de l'actrice et le nomma "Actress Margarita" (Actrice Marguerite). C'est aujourd’hui une de ses œuvres les plus célèbres. Pour l’anniversaire de Marguerite, Pirosmani vendit tous ses biens et acheta toutes les fleurs de la ville. D'énormes chariots chargés de fleurs furent livrés chez Marguerite. Ils firent déchargés près de sa fenêtre, et en peu de temps, toute la rue fut remplie de fleurs. La légende dit que ces fleurs étaient des roses, mais en réalité, il n’y avait pas que des roses mais il y avait également des lilas, des acacias, des lys et d'autres fleurs encore. Ce matin-là, Marguerite entendit du bruit et sentit un arôme incroyable. Excitée, elle s'approcha de la fenêtre et vit qu’un magnifique tapis de fleurs s’étendait devant elle, et que Pirosmani s’avançait vers sa maison à travers l’amas de fleurs. L'actrice s’enfuit de la maison dans sa plus belle robe et donna à l'artiste son premier et dernier baiser. Bien évidemment, cette histoire est enjolivée de légendes, et jusqu’à aujourd’hui, personne ne peut dire exactement ce qu’il en est de la réalité. On dit que Niko n’a plus jamais vu l'actrice après ce jour-là, et qu'elle quittait la Géorgie avec un riche admirateur.

It's not Russian. It's Soviet, written by Soviet Latvian composer Mr. Raimonds Pauls, originally for the Soviet Latvian singer (search for "Dāvāja Māriņa") and adapted in Russian for Ms Alla Pugacheva.

The song "A Million Roses" based on the poems of Andrei Voznesensky became one of the most popular songs of the decade and firmly entered the repertoire of Alla Pugacheva. Since its premiere in the "New Year's Attraction" on January 2, 1983, almost no solo performance of the singer was complete without performing the song at the end of the concert, for an encore, often in a joint performance with the audience in the hall.

You are a little bit wrong. This is made by Latvian composer Raimonds Pauls. The original lyrics is "Dāvāja Māriņa". After this, of course, there vere Vozņesenski and Pugačova

You are both a little misinformed. The song is first performed by Azerbaijani İranian singer Googoosh about a decade before Raymobd Pauls "wrote" and Alla Pugacheva sang it " for the first time". kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qKmoa7Gbprnbf6c.html
