The most important digit in a 1969 Dodge is the 5th one. It tells you what engine the car had from the factory. In the case of our Hemi Charger, we're missing the "J". Somebody smoked the J!

Someone I knew (years ago) had a Charger RT/SE model in that era, he showed me where the factory put the paperwork for it in the car, odd place. Interesting and educational channel GC, thank you. :)

Back in the day I had a 68 Charger that was triple white. Sadly it was only a 318 car but, I was able to source a 340 out of a 70 Challenger that had ben balanced, blue printed and some other work done. It ran quite well in the Charger.... I sure wish I still had it ......

Had a 72 Challenger back in the 80’s, it was very rough with floorboards rusting out behind the front wheels and a bent K frame from the previous owners collision. Car tracked right no pulling. Well I got tired of looking at a cracking dash so I went junkyard hunting. I finally did find one, bought it and brought it home. A few days later I noticed that the idiots in the Chrysler design squad had attached the VIN plate to the dash cover instead of the metal subsurface and punching a hole in the dash cover as what one sees today. Welllllll, Houston we have a problem. These plated were fastened to the cover with large flange pop rivets that has a series of small scallops cut into the flange. Finally located a source for the right diameter flanged rivet but no scallops. Well out came the needle nosed round file and within an hour and a half I had two exact matching rivets. Within minutes I had the correct VIN on the doner dash and it was back in the car the following morning. Could not tell the plate had been tampered with. All numbers matched and no fraud was committed and the dash looked almost good as new! It would have been an interesting car to hold onto. The last MOPAR I owned was a 93 Plymouth Mini Van. Nice ride but it went through seven transmissions in the 12 years I owned it. Turns out that stupid engineers used nylon parts in key components in the tranny. Thank goodness I had purchased the 7-70 warranty, it covered four of those transmissions and one ECM.

I’ve been told that some guys that fabricate new data plates, that look old, are so finicky, they want high resolution photos of the original from several different angles: Dead on, 45 degrees from right, 45 degrees from left… so they can tell if the person stamping the original data plate was right or left handed.

The mig welded plates would be stronger than the factory spotty welds...every mopar of that era should have those reinforcing plates welded in now, regarldless of engine...55 years of body and frame flexing and surviving is why.....the factory has told us all what the weak points in the frame were

If you went out to look at one for sale in the 80s, the level of excitement corresponded to the body, in ascending order C/A/B/E. Going to see the e body was like a blind date with a cheerleader -- only better because it stayed in your garage. If you don't get it, you might be a good onlyfans customer.
