I'm an electrician in the US and I have a whole fleet of Knipex tools. I am the only one that I know of though, lol. No one seems to know what they are. I was in a circle of probably 5 or 6 electricians and there I am claiming to be holding the best wire strippers money can buy. Not a single one of them said "let me try them out". They barely even looked at them. I don't get it. If they were not electricians, sure I would understand then.

For all the "Klein copied".. look up Joseph Eifel's patent history. He was a Chicago based inventor that developed over 100 versions of this tool eventually founding the "American Plierench Corporation" in 1916. After APC dissolved there were many Japanese companies that modified the design in the 80's very similar to the current platform; but they were mostly cash-register, low quality, trivial tools. Knipex pushed the design and quality to the next level making a robust and refined design, but they certainly weren't the inventor's of the platform. With this new Klein design, Klein appears to be pushing this platform to yet another level as Knipex did fifteen years ago; same size, two functions. Forged, machined and assembled in the USA to boot.

The patent on these ran out in 2014. From there, the decision has to be made to get in on this kind of tool, then some R&D needs done on if they want to and can add to it (in this case yes), then the tooling needs made, production set up and dialed in and tested and dialed in some more. Finally some initial inventory buildup and distribution and finally release. It's a bit of a process.

I am spoiled by Knipex. Tsunoda (King) in Japan is making very fine pliers too. Got a couple Klein's as well. I'm a Tool Junky, especially pliers and multi-bit screw drivers like a Piquick Dash or Ideal USA.

I like the adjustment button a LOT. Not so sure about the jaws. I like the idea, but I typically like dedicated function tools. As do dads are added the main function tends to get diminished. Not that this wouldn’t find a place somewhere in my workflow, but for me it’s a niche that I am not sure needs filling.

To me the “multipurpose” tools just seem gimmicky and seems like a weak point in the tool. Buy a pair of separate Knipex Cobras and Knipex plier wrench and you won’t regret it

Looks like a prototype with too many wonky things going on. Like the idea and innovation. I'll wait for Gen2 if this is gen1
