They can be engineers as well. They can diagnose a problem, design a fix, machine the part, install the part and operate the machine.

I’m in local 602 Steamfitters I work 6 months out of the year at powerhouse job and big overtime jobs making alittle over $100k in 6 months and I’m also in local 5 ironworkers where I work the other 6 months of the year so when it comes time to retire I get 2 pensions, and if one gets slow I can rely on the other union to provide work and fall back on

i thought holding two skilled trade books wasn’t allowed? such as a millwright book and an operators book? but having an unskilled (laborers) book was fine

In short millwrights deal with industrial machinery. From installing it, fixing it, and maintaining it. If you dive a little deeper they especially deal with alot of precision alignment work for motors, pumps, and shafts.

You need to know math, know how to Solve problems, confidence in equipment, confidence in your tools. Confidence in how you carry yourself.

I'm finishing school this year considering to become a millwright. I've heard that a millwright also do electrician work and that's the only thing that I don't want to do I like working with my hands just not installing elektriesion type of work Any advice maybe?

Contact the Millwrights and have them talk you through the program. Being a millwright is a very dynamic career with lots of different facets that you can get into.

The school I’m in they let you pick once you get around 44 credits rather you want the pipefitting concentration or general technician concentration last year they let students pick Electrical Concentration while they’re also in Industrial maintenance technology so you would be getting 2 Degrees

Only bad thing with millwright union is your laid off a lot, my cousin left millwright union to be a steamfitter like me, I’ve been out of my time now for 6 years now as a welder/pipefitter but during my 11 year career I’ve only been laid off twice but each time was only for 2 weeks long and are raise come august 1st are scale will be at $50 an hour and that’s in are pocket
