Rule of thumb for boaters: Unloading and loading your boat can be very easy... to unload remove all straps and the front cable, (THIS IS NOT FOR ROLLER TRAILERS) tie a (dock) line (10' to 15' in length) to the side cleat on the dock side and have your partner walk beside you and onto the dock while you back the boat into the water. Only back far enough to start floating the boat, then hit your brakes and the boat should float free. Have your partner tie off the boat to the dock. Add more dock lines as needed. **VERY IMPORTANT** IF YOU HAVE A ROLLER TRAILER (ROLLERS ON YOUR TRAILER) KEEP THE FRONT CABLE ATTACHED OR YOUR BOAT MAY ROLL OFF THE TRAILER WHILE YOU ARE BACKING DOWN THE RAMP! Loading your boat, back your trailer into the water leaving the boat trailer fenders out off the water, most folks back too far into the water, (if your fenders are under water you are too far) causing all kinds of problems. Simply drive your boat onto the trailer, it will usually self-correct when it slides up the bunks, if you are slightly off center. You may have to goose it slightly to get it all the way on the trailer. Have your partner connect the cable to the front and winch it tight, now pull the boat and trailer out of the water. When docking your boat attach lines fore and aft (before reaching the dock), approach slightly bow in (45 degree angle or less) and secure a line from the bow (front of the boat) to a dock cleat and put engine in reverse, keeping it at idle and turn the wheel towards the dock, it will pull the stern back into the dock, holding it there while you tie up the stern line to a dock cleat.

Honestly BEST SHOW EVER!!!! AS a boater for over 45 years I can tell you this, not one of them understand how to put a trailer in the water on a steep ramp, or handle a boat. OBVIOUSLY COVID stimulus checks were good....look at all those new boats getting damaged....lol....Put the fender out, tie a line, hook your chain on the bow of the boat to your trailer.......nope.....yap what a sh&t show....Ohhh look at me I have a boat....ya I am looking and everyone of them is a navigational hazard! Ask them where their starboard is, or what does Red right return mean, the flashes on a lighthouse signify, how to tie a dock line....won't know! The beauty is love to see them in a storm, yap it may go fast, but they are so screwed if a storm comes in or even a little wind....so I am going to ask you please, please film when a storm hits...you know beautiful day gone bad...then ping me....I've got to see that one......its going to be a classic...So who am I, I grew up on the ocean / Cape Cod Mass and have seen it all and been it too....We have tides, wind, waves, currents, shifting sand bars, fog, etc...its all good if you know what to do....

I was at a small lake but pretty deep so larger boats can go in it. The ramp is steep and short and the dock is short. One day I'm getting my boat out of the water an 18' Lund and this guy pulls up on the dock next to me in a beautiful 24' CC. It was longer than the dock and when he put it on the trailer he couldn't get the boat all the way up the bunks. He sat there trying to throttle his way up and just kicking up the mud and silt sucking that crap right into that big beautiful new engine. He was a real stuck up a hole anyway in a big hurry. It's got to be good to have so much money you can afford to be stupid😂

Why do ALL these people tie off to the dock and then go get the trailer? Most have several adults on them. Pull up to the dock, let someone off to go get the trailer, get out of the way until your trailer is on the ramp. Put your boat on the trailer and pull away. If you tie to the dock and then go get your trailer, you block the ramp and people can’t launch. They’ll sit at the top of the ramp and you won’t be able to put your trailer on the ramp.

I was never a fan of driving on to the trailer. I back the trailer in the water until the front of the bunks are just underwater then coast it on. I use the winch to crank it up and have marks on the strap that I use to set the tongue weight. I don't need guides. As long as the front of the boat puts a little weight on the bunks the rear settles in straight when I pull out.
